Brett Larsen Posted June 3, 2020 Report Posted June 3, 2020 Hello everybody. My first post here as I'm new to the Mooney world. I'm currently undergoing a restoration project of a K model Mooney and I am trying to source a lower engine cowling for a 252 model. Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Brett
carusoam Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 Welcome aboard new guy! We have a few sources of pre-flown parts... Check in with these folks to see what they have... @Alan Fox @SheryLoewen @Jerry Pressley Best regards, -a-
carusoam Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 Brett, Feel free to post a few pics of your project... Best regards, -a-
xavierde Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 I'd be interested to know what you end up doing for that. My cowling isn't in great shape and I'm looking for a long-term solution. I saw LASAR looking for one recently too.
Brett Larsen Posted June 5, 2020 Author Report Posted June 5, 2020 Here are some pics of the progress. The plane is based out of KRIU in northern CA. We've had the landing gear completely rebuilt, and stripped/repainted the gear wells. The engine has been overhauled and mounted, and the installation is in progress. LASAR recently moved over to KRIU (lucky for me!), and they have been helping a ton on the project. They've worked out all the challenges to date to get this back in the air! Just need the cowling. Thanks everyone for the help! 1
carusoam Posted June 5, 2020 Report Posted June 5, 2020 Magnifico, que belisimo! That is a beautiful work of mechanical art! Thanks for sharing the details... Do you have an intercooler to go with that cowling project? We have an intercooler guy around here as well... Best regards, -a-
Brett Larsen Posted June 5, 2020 Author Report Posted June 5, 2020 Yeah, it's an MB engine, I have the intercooler. Waiting on the baffling to get back from powder coating before it all gets put together. 1
Guest Posted June 5, 2020 Report Posted June 5, 2020 What happened to the original engine cowls? If damaged are they repairable? Byron, @jetdriven did quite a rebuild of his J cowl, there is a thread with pictures and details somewhere around here. Clarence
Brett Larsen Posted July 2, 2020 Author Report Posted July 2, 2020 I have the original cowling in good shape, but it's for a 231.
kortopates Posted July 9, 2020 Report Posted July 9, 2020 I have the original cowling in good shape, but it's for a 231. I thought the airframe looked like a 231 rather than 252. All the new work looks beautiful! Inquiring minds are curious as to how you were able to get approval to install the MB in a 231 airframe? Thought those STCs were no longer. Are you sure the 231 upper cowling was essentially the same as the 252? I thought they were different in how high they went up - but not really sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
