Wow, the M20K empty weight as delivered  is 400 lbs heavier than my J. I figure about half of that is the engine and prop, where’s the weight coming from?

A second alternator, a second (heavy) vacuum pump in the tail. A 115cu/ft O2 tank mounted in the tail with all the associated valves, piping, ports, etc.

That's off the top of my head.

But avionics is the big thing.  KFC200 system, all in, is 37 lbs removed all by itself. Stdy Vac around 9 lbs, a bunch of 3-pounders in there, a couple more 8-10 punders, and there you are. I kept the engine driven vac pump for my speedbrakes. About 90 lbs came out. Total of about 30 lbs went back in for G3X, GTN750, G5, EDM900 primary, GTN750 and GFC500.

So about 60lbs gain (I mean lost) for 50k$ avionics upgrade, about 1K$ for each 1lbs?

I think I will stick to gym membership deals, maybe cheaper to invite all 4SOB to help with the workout session

While the gym membership is a more cost effective useful load solution... it doesn't help as much with the flying. Pound for pound, that $50K avionics upgrade is a hell of a deal on useful load compared to adding a copilot to help with the flying on those long cross countries or especially when it's all going to shit in a busy airspace with low IFR conditions. My avionics upgrade is often like having a Pro Pilot sitting in the seat next to me. A pilot who flies better than I do, is a better stick, has ice water flowing through his veins, and has every approach on the continent memorized. And even though $50K sounds like a lot, you ought to see what FO's get these days.

Ahhh, those slim & smart FOs don't come cheap

On the comparison with the J...

Don’t forget the extra battery in the tail as well...  and all the support it gets... mechanical and electrical.

It is similar to Charlie weights... has some lead in it, and slightly more useful.

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

I already weigh just 170 at 5'11", and body fat around 10%. The gym route wouldn't have helped me :D  I might have 5 lbs to lose, but not 60...

I can't say I disagree.  I love my C. But I'd really love a faster bigger Mooney.

By definition, your wife is right. Trust me on that.

Whats the going rate on a decently equipped 252?

More than a C, less than a divorce :)

Really, if your mission requires a turbo -- the 252 is a great machine.

If you like to fly West, turbos are awesome. However, Mx increases accordingly. I loved my E, but the Bravo is a different airplane in capability. A 252 has a whole lot of capability as well. However, there is something to be said with simplicity and efficiency and Mooney got it right with the C/E/F.

FIFY. ;-)

When written here on Mooneyspace, in all caps, that looks like the name of a de-iced dog.  A girl de-iced dog.

Come to think of it - wouldn't FIKI be great name for a dog.  Come FIKI! Come!  Sit FIKI!

1) 252

2) Rocket

3) Missile

4) O3

5) Screamin’ Eagle

Mooney did get it right the first time...

Rocket engineering got it more righter, on the second through fifth on the above list... :)

Go Mooney!
