While shooting the ILS 06 at BHM, approach put me in front of an RJ. I was established and in the descent in IMC. Tower asked me for max forward, and asked the RJ for min. forward speed, both of which led to no changes and grumbling from the RJ driver. I had my speed brakes (landing gear) out so I was maxed. Tower asked me how the approach would terminate. I indicated that I would be going missed, he bounced me. At least I was established. Had I known this, I would have landed and made the RJ get bounced. Maybe next time. Went on to JFX and shot the ILS to landing, then back to TCL for the RNAV 04. Three approaches in actual in about 1.4 h at three different airports. Big fun for a Sunday of social isolation. 2 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 I did 4 flights out of ORD one weekend around 2004 with a 2 ship of F-15Es. Flybys at the Gary, IN airshow. Had to ask for progressive about every time. Asked to come up initial (I just had to ask). Pretty sure they were laughing as they denied it. Did formation takeoff and landings to minimize time on the runway. Was awesome taxiing over a bridge on a road. People were hanging out their windows waving to us! GA in there? Yeah, maybe once for fun. 1 Quote
GeeBee Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 At least by 2004 they had standard taxiway terminology at KORD. They used to have taxiways with names like "Lake Shore Drive" and "Michigan Ave". It made copying taxi instructions a nightmare, and since there was no signs at the time, you had to really be tracing yourself on the 10-9 page. It was not unusual to end up beak to beak. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 When I first started flying Mooneys I liven in Denver. I would fly into Stapelton all the time just for the jollies of it. They had colored taxi lines depending where you were going. If I recall they had blue and orange lines. You would get a clearance like "Taxi to Gates via the orange route" 1 Quote
GeeBee Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 Yep they did, hard to see in the rain though. Quote

I also remember being on parallel approach in a 210 with a DC-9. I was in a powered descent trying to keep up airspeed as requested. The DC-9 was leaving me in the dust. Then I floated for half a mile down the runway while the controller was telling me to hurry up and take the next exit when my gear weren't yet on the ground. As I took the high speed, a glance over my shoulder revealed the jet behind me was already in the flare. That was exciting! 1 Quote

bradp Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 Flew to ATL about this time last year. Flying home to ILM from Austin TX got tired and decided to land at ATL at about 10p. Signature didn’t have 100LL so they waived their ramp fee as if I purchased fuel. I think I paid $20 for overnight parking. I’ve flown into IAD. I used to do practice approaches at PIT (they would just ask you land full stop and taxi back). We have no problem mixing in with the jets. Quote
