AlexLev Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) On a recent weekend trip to Montreal, had the plane sitting outside in 2F for 3 days while I was out there. I had the line crew plug in a Tannis heater for the entire duration, but the plane was still super difficult to start. On top of that, one of the fasteners for the oil panel was missing :-/. The flight back had it flapping half open, unfortunately. See picture below. Any idea where I can order a replacement and what this fastener is called? I do believe my plane has one of the cowl mods: Attached some pictures of fasteners: Edited January 27, 2020 by AlexLev Quote
DXB Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 Calling these guys might be a good place to start - their kits are also available through Spruce https://store.skybolt.com/replacement-kits-m203-c1186.aspx Oddly my fasteners for that door are different though we have the same year bird. On another note I'm gonna call you for tips before I go to Montreal this summer for a meeting... Quote
Delta Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 DZUS quarter-turn fasteners. Need to determine what retainer is/was holding the fastener/stud and the (stud) length. Aircraft Spruce has them, as mentioned above. You can download the product specs from southco.com. https://www.southco.com/en-us/d4 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 That’s a Dzus fastener. Check the remaining stud, it will have the length stamped on it, then check with Spruce etc. You will also need the soft aluminum grommet which holds the stud in the door and some special installation tools. Your heater performance will improve with an insulated engine blanket. Clarence Quote
carusoam Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 Skybolt typically has everything in that category... Aircaft spruce is easy to order from... The fastener has two parts of hardware... one that is The hole, the other that acts like the 1/4 turn fastener... look to see that the hole part of the hardware stayed put... There are various tools needed to install the hole and the fastener... make sure your mechanic has them, or you can buy them at the same time... If given the choice... select Stainless Steel... Now... getting the shaft size right... it might be written on the remaining fastener as a code... Or the parts manual will have it... Lasar probably has the details as well if ordering from them... Measuring the one that is remaining will work... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- Quote
