tigers2007 Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 Does anyone use this? I can't find anything on this except that I can download the Garmin Checklist Editor. No examples of what it looks like on the internet with photos either. Quote

If you download the editor and make a checklist you then save the file on the data card and the GTN 750 should recognize it. I think you have to name it “chklist.ace” otherwise it won’t recognize it. If you email Garmin tech support they will help you out. Quote
tigers2007 Posted April 28, 2019 Author Report Posted April 28, 2019 I have a 650. How do you navigate to the checklist? Do I have to add it to the menu? I'm surprised that none of this is mentioned in the owners manual nor could I find any screen shots of what it looks like. I would like to try the electronic checklist versus fumble-farting with the ridiculous laminated copy that gets misplaced. Quote
carusoam Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 There is a thread around here somewhere... Good luck finding it though... Many people have gone with electronic checklists... and the GTN has the ability... I was unable to find the pireps.... -a- Quote
tigers2007 Posted April 28, 2019 Author Report Posted April 28, 2019 I'm watching Sporty's online IFR course right now and old-man Collins is barking about checklists. They cut in GTN-750 footage but I wish they actually show the GTN's actual digital checklist function. Quote
ilovecornfields Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 I don’t know if it’s available on the 650. I have the same checklist on my 750 and aera 796. I’ll try to remember to take a picture next week so you can see it. Garmin is actually pretty responsive to emails. 1 Quote
Bryan Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 I have had a GTN 750 for the last 3-4 years and never knew it had a checklist function. I will go re-read the GTN POH; I don’t recall seeing it in there. Quote
EricJ Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 My Avidyne IFD540 has a checklist function as well, and I have a few things in there. The handiest for me are probably the climbout and cruise checklists, but you can keep anything in there. Quote
ilovecornfields Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 Here’s the thread on Beechtalk that discusses it and has pictures of the checklist: https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=113953 Quote
toto Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 This is covered in the pilot's guide (attached). See sec. 15.9. 190-01007-03_Q.pdf Quote
tigers2007 Posted April 29, 2019 Author Report Posted April 29, 2019 Hey thanks guys! I found this photo on beechtalk:I’m glad I heard old man Collins (RIP) discuss electronic checklists in today’s IFR lesson. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Bryan Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 I looked today. It appears the pilot guide has been updated since I bought had my 750 installed. Thanks! Quote
tigers2007 Posted April 29, 2019 Author Report Posted April 29, 2019 I’m going to type up a checklist tomorrow and upload it. I need to get the software updated in this thing too as I’m still running 6.21 and have maps last updated in Mar 2017!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Checklists are available on the 650 as long as you're on software version 5.10 or later. It is in the manual, section 14.9, Rev N available here: http://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-01004-03_N.pdf If "Checklists" doesn't appear on your utilities page, that's probably just because you haven't programmed them and stored them to a card. You'll need the Garmin checklist editor app, available here: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5075 1 Quote
flyingcheesehead Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 Does anyone happen to have put in their checklist yet that could share the chklist.ace file here (or via PM)? I'd love to get a running start on this. I haven't had time to key it all in. Quote
larryb Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 Here is mine. You can use the same exact file on the GTN and 796. chklist.ace 1 Quote
tigers2007 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Report Posted May 1, 2019 I took my laptop to the hangar today and added it to my 650. I have to navigate from the main menu, to Utilities, and then to Checklists. I have the option of changing my ETE display to have a hot-button to the Checklists but I’d rather preserve the ETE display. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3 Quote

tigers2007 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Report Posted May 1, 2019 Flyingcheesehead mentioned it above. Download the free Garmin Checklist Editor and create your checklist. Save the file to the root directory of the SD card and put it back in the GTN. It will automatically recognize the file. I’ll upload my version in a moment after I crawl out of bed. tigers2007 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Report Posted May 1, 2019 Here is my checklist. Note the name of it. The file has to be named as such for the GTN to recognize what it is. Download the editor, change what you want, and dump that into the root area on the SD card. Note that I did not include any preflight to engine-start checklists as my GTN is unusable until the engine is running. chklist.ace Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 1, 2019 Report Posted May 1, 2019 I have a FS510 so I do not use the 750's data SC card. I have an elaborate, multi-checklist ***.ACE file on my laptop with a copy on the SD card in the GTN 696, has anyone tried to upload such from the 696 card to the 750? Sounds like I could load it onto the 750 SD card to then upload to 750... Quote
tigers2007 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Report Posted May 1, 2019 I thought the FS510 card had 32GB of storage. Try putting it in your laptop and dumping the chklist.ace file in the root folder. Wow I forgot that big G wants $1500 for that $79 card. Ridiculous but convenient. Quote

I think the FS510 - wifi and bluetooth link was $1000 but I'm pretty sure the value of software is not dependent on the cost of the medium it's stored on. (I once tried to buy a genuine copy of MS PowerPoint in Tiripur India. The local computer expert laughed at me. He had a backpack full of bootleg CDs but assured me there was no a single copy of what I wanted in the city of 1,000,000.) Quote

My guess, like mentioned above, is to remove the card - load the file onto the FS510 and put back into the 750. I love my FS510 and would not trade it for the usefullness it provides by with databases and streaming. 1 Quote
