Carusoam,

So G5 to GTN and my current 106 to GMC255, Original the shop recommended an additional 106 which is strange they wouldn't  just advise to connect once source to the 650.

Don’t put another 106a in there - you already have one.

The only time I use the bearing pointers on my Aspen is when I get one of those "intercept Victor 29" requests or when I checking VOR accuracy per FAR 91.171. But I sure do like and use my secondary HSI capabilities.

It’s not in the STC but dual Nav/GPS sources  work with a 255A as Nav2 via Airinc. It will not work with an SL-30.  You can still wire the 106a to the 255a via composite.  If my 650 went out I’d sure like to be able to fly an ILS on the HSI instead of the 106a.

Move your current AI to the TC position.  This is in the STC.

Keep the strike finder.  I made a flight yesterday that would not have been possible without my little strike finder providing some additional data.

I’d second the use of the Aera660 as an MFD.  you get curved path via MapMX and can output a GTX-345 to it.

If you’re worried about loss of WAAS to the 345, get the one with the GPS module and run another coax to a GPS antenna.

Hope this helps.

Hey all,

Going to be starting on my instrument rating in late April and before then I wanted to do a mild panel upgrade to improve connectivity, data input/ output (Weather/Traffic), panel cleanup, and to prepare for future upgrades (GFC500)

This is not what you want to hear but my answer: Get to work on your IR now and then do your panel after you've done the rating and have some time under the belt.

My AP came back today everything is ordered for install but through his research he found the KAP100 uses the run coordinator for roll steering so we will be removing the DG, and AI but keeping the T/S.

How do I verify if the KAP100 really uses the T/S or the AI as its been mentioned a couple times here. I trust my AP but others here said its the AI that the system needs.

BK has their manuals on line...

Find the pilot guide for the KAP100 system and the pictures early on show what is integrated with what By model number...

It is amazing how integrated the system is... and where it gets its details from... and what can be added from eBay to make it even stronger...

AI, HSI, KAP100, Static system, compass system...

Best regards,

If he doesn't know that on a King Autopilot that you need to keep the King Attitude indicator, I wouldn't let him near your instrument panel. This subject has been discussed at great length on this and other forums. Take it to a shop that does this every day.
