Belobog Posted December 24, 2018 Report Posted December 24, 2018 I would like to get my private pilots license. I want to learn in the plane that I will purchase. Do you know any specific flight training with Mooneys around Volusia county? Quote
carusoam Posted December 25, 2018 Report Posted December 25, 2018 It’s a great idea Belo... Most people do better by learning in a trainer. A quicker route, then trying to learn in a Mooney... So, there aren’t many Mooneys available to rent to train primary in. The insurance companies have a way of making it less financially feasible. Some people buy a Mooney, pay a lot for the first year’s insurance. Then proceed as you have described. In the end, flying a variety of aircraft makes you a stronger pilot... So there isn’t a lot of benefit to primary training in a Mooney... Then there is the next step... normally aspirated vs. turbo, or small bore vs. big bore... So many choices that hard to make without the experience... more experience, better decisions, sort of... Best regards, -a- Quote

Pete M Posted January 13, 2019 Report Posted January 13, 2019 I'm currently a working cfi in stuart fl. I got my ppl in an E model 15 years ago. I had more than a 1000 hours in a sim before I ever started. Had that plane for 7 years:) Loved it. That said, no one in Fl would let you train or solo in their Mooney. The only outfit I know of is Ocala aviation and they use their E for commercial and cfi. Got my cfi in it. Getting your ppl in a Mooney will probably double the time it takes. That doesn't count the time it takes to fix all of the things a new to you plane needs fixed. Get your ppl and IR first, then worry about buying a plane. It'll save you time and money. Pete Quote
