aajones5 Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 (edited) I realize that this may not be the best space, but I'm out on a limb here. Apparently airline pilot central is not too friendly to research studies and I still need a lot of responses for my study. I'm in my last year of college and I'm trying to finish so I can start my airline career. I'm doing a small scale research study for a class on pilot fatigue, it is something I've found interesting since it will affect me everyday in my career and I decided to focus on jet lag and the role it could play in pilot fatigue. All I need are pilots flying regularly scheduled routes who are willing to answer a quick 10 minutes survey. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to message me and I will answer them promptly. Thank you. carusoam Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 First things first, young aviator... When posting a link, make sure it goes to the right place. You may only get one opportunity to get it right... don’t let it fall on deaf ears... As an old guy, with new technology, I can’t make the link work... Could be just me... Either way... post a live clickable link... I get an invalid address response... after trying a few times... Best regards, -a- Quote
kpaul Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZl2JDvExVKfgLiF4bx2n6Q-dXF3jPUjzS7UP_H-4xLCY8QQ/viewform Here is a live link. I did the cut and past thing into explorer and it seemed to work. Unfortunately, I can't help out because in my current job I generally cross 0-1 time zones and get to sleep in my own bed each night. @aajones5good luck with your research and finishing your degree. aajones5 Posted November 9, 2018 Author Report Posted November 9, 2018 @carusoam I apologize that link was clickable the other times I had posted it not sure why it wasn't this time. Thanks @kpaul for the save and thank you for the well wishes! Quote
carusoam Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 AAJ, Thanks for the quick response... Consider editing your post to take out the broken link... People have started measuring their sleep better over the years... Important for pilots and other people... probably really helpful for students... Have you measured your own sleep quantity / quality relationship? I use a Fitbit HR.... to collect data. Having real actual sleep data is helpful for getting enough rest before going to work. real data allows you to know how full the tank is, and how long before it runs out... I did a lot of international flights for engineering work... Sleep on the plane, go into work a few hours later... Every hour counts... Best regards, -a- Quote
aajones5 Posted November 9, 2018 Author Report Posted November 9, 2018 carusoam, Just edited it so it should be good now thanks for the suggestion. Yes sleep is very important to me as I'm not someone who can function well when I cut myself short, not a useful quality for a college student or an airline pilot I imagine but I make due. One of the things I'm interested in is to see if jet lag causes a decrease in the quality/quantity of pilot's sleep. Quote
aajones5 Posted November 9, 2018 Author Report Posted November 9, 2018 @kpaul If you fly for a living and would still like to take the survey I would love to get your response. I'm interested in covering the whole spectrum of flying, getting a response for the very short-haul flying would be wonderful. Quote
Andy95W Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 Is this survey completely confidential? Could I log on anonymously? Quote
aajones5 Posted November 9, 2018 Author Report Posted November 9, 2018 Yes it doesn't collect names emails or anything. All I can see is when an individual response was submitted nothing else. Quote

I used to spend a bit of time overseas (12 deployments) but now spend my days teaching pilot training for the Air Force. I think answering for my current job would skew your results. Quote
Guest Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 I always find it interesting when hearing about the long duty days commercial pilots complain about. You might want to do a survey of medical residents and the hours they put in as a comparison. Clarence Quote
aajones5 Posted November 10, 2018 Author Report Posted November 10, 2018 @M20Doc I originally wanted to do a comparison study, but unfortunately I'm working with little time here and was advised against that. If I do get the chance to do more research that would definately make for a great comparison! Quote
