The-sky-captain Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 I started using Camguard after my last oil change and have heard two different opinions on what type of oil I should be using with it. I have been using Aeroshell 15/50 and had planned on putting it back in. One guy is saying is that since the ASL is being used the synthetic aspect of the Aeroshell is not needed and may actually hinder the effectiveness of the ASL so a straight oil should be used. Your thoughts?? Quote
TurboExec Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 (My Opinion, and my mechanics only) Go with the Phillips 20w-50 XC....it is a damn good oil and is a good price too. Picked up a few Cases at Sun'N'Fun for $35 a case. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 i've been running Aeroshell 15-50 with ASL. I'm planning on switching to Phillips 20-50 on my next oil change. A mechanic said if I switch to the Phillips I will have to add an additive (I don't remember the name) that I did not need when using the Aeroshell. I know alot of you use the Phillips so I'm curious to hear what you do. Thanks. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 Oh yeah, I've also heard/read on other forums that oil consumption will go down using the Phillips over the Aeroshell. Is there any proof of this? Quote
GeorgePerry Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I'm a big fan of camguard. Everything I've read gives the produce very good reviews. I use it along with Exxon Elite. Oil change every 30 hours or 4 months whichever comes first...Luckily it's usually the hours. The few extra bucks spent on the taking good care of the engine is worth it to me. Quote

rogerl Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Quote: JimR I use CamGuard with Phillips XC multiweight, which is what Aviation Consumer recommended recently. Phillips XC apparently doesn't have an additives package, which is why it is cheaper than Aeroshell and the other options. They said that if you are using Camguard there is no reason to pay for the higher priced oils. I don't think it will hurt anything, though, if you prefer to use Aeroshell with CamGuard. Quote
rogerl Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Quote: JimR Roger, I don't understand your post. I was just pointing out that Camguard is reportedly safe for use with all commonly used oils, and that Aviation Consumer had recommended it for use with Phillips XC, not because the Phillips XC was superior to other oils on the market, but because it was cheaper. I am familiar with LW-16702, but I don't see how it and SB 446D relate to my comment. Maybe the Frequently Asked Questions from the Camguard website should just speak for themselves.
