Good cautionary notes!

Please keep your eyes outside and your heads on a swivel....not on your 3 GPS's, your JPI, your iPad or any other expensive toys. Mid air meetings are almost always fatal.

I have also experienced occasional position errors on the moving map. In my testing, I believe this has more to do with the mapping software and less with the GPS coordinates.  ForeFlight's ability to quickly scroll and zoom maps in and out can sometimes cause the synch between maps coords and actual coords to get off track. When this happens, usually zooming out a bit will reset things.

I couldn't find any indication in the video or the description, of which GPS source they're using for their iPad. I'm guessing they're only using the internal GPS of the 3G model, but you're absolutely right that the iPad should not be relied on for primary nav.

I had my first opportunity to try out the geo-referenced approach plates in ForeFlight with a Bad Elf gps during some practice approaches the other day. My primary nav was the Garmin 430W in my plane, but Foreflight was always right on when compared to the 430.

As with any hand-held GPS, the signal can vary significantly depending on the aircraft you're in and the position of the gps receiver in the plane.

Apple announced the iPad 2 yesterday, and it's shipping March 11th. It will be interesting to hear reports of whether it does a better job tracking, since the processor is supposedly 2x faster.

Also, here's a video someone posted to the AOPA forum exhibiting this:

I have a writeup that I need to finish and post on ForeFlight, SkyCharts Pro and the SkyRadar app and ADS-B receiver. I hope to have that done this weekend.

I have found the iPad internal GPS a little flakey at times.

The SkyRadar ADS-B reveiver has a WAAS GPS receiver and commnicates with the iPad via WLAN. The WAAS GPS seems pretty reliable but I haven't had it above 10,500'. The SkyRadar application is unique and, I think, VERY easy to use and handy. You can download it for free with a 1 month trial.  They also offer geo-referrenced low altitude charts and approach plates but I haven't purchased that yet.

There is supposed to be a pretty good app out for the Droid:

I just wish they offered the georeferencing.  There are no plans on that just yet with this app.

So how many people have the new Ipad on order?  I held out on buying the 2 for the last 3 months until the new one came out.
