glafaille Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 Here is the new Ping Buddy from Uvionix, except it's now called the Foreflight Scout and sold thru Amazon. http://flywithscout.com/ 1
Raptor05121 Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 No AHRS, no GPS. If you want to stay cheap, a Stratux is still a better idea, at least you get GPS 1
Cooperd0g Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 I was thinking the same thing, but I still have an old Bad Elf that does GPS. This might be a good combo with the Bad Elf.
gsengle Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 I'm surprised they didn't include the gps chipSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
glafaille Posted July 18, 2017 Author Report Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) Surprised that the Scout does not include GPS? Really? I'm surprised people buy Ipads without GPS. Why do pilots even bother with wifi only Ipads? The GPS on my Ipad works awesome and the accuracy is excellent. Edited July 18, 2017 by glafaille
carusoam Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 A waas GPS receiver is really cool for accurately measuring T/O and landing distances... with your ADSB weather and traffic... But, for 0.2amu, ready to go, is pretty nice... what is it using for power? Best regards, -a-

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk And stratux does have an ahrs module now, as well, that the beta software supports. Not long before it's their stable load. My stratux w/ 2 band, + was gps was only about $75 bucks... works beautifully with FlyQ, and my IFD440.... 1
Piloto Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) Keep waiting after 2020 ADS-B will be a standard feature embedded in some products. Like GPS in your cell phone. José Edited July 18, 2017 by Piloto
HRM Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 I wasn't impressed with $200, but then again, I am a card carrying CB. 1

Godfather Posted July 19, 2017 Report Posted July 19, 2017 IMO the real advantage of this unit is the size. Easy to toss in the flight bag or mount in the aircraft.
peevee Posted July 19, 2017 Report Posted July 19, 2017 Took an existing product, made it more expensive and renamed it. https://www.seattleavionics.com/pingbuddy.aspx A stratux is still cheaper and better. 1
