Fortunately, Sporty's has a year-long guarantee, so I can return the XRX. I'd looked at the Monroy as well--the ability to mount an external antenna is compelling, but Aviation Consumer just did a review and swore the XRX was better.

Just the simple fact that the ATD-300 is FAA approved and the XRX is not would tell which one is better. I no longer subscribe to Aviation Consumer because of their lack of technical knowledge and capabilities on product evaluation. Flieger Magazine of Germany http://www.fliegermagazin.de/aktuelles_heft/aktuelles_heft/index.php has an interesting article this month comparing Monroy, Zaon and European made devices. I don't know if they have an English version of the article but the pictures looks pretty good. Of course anything european is better.Undecided

Interested in a ATD-300.  The only thing I am waiting on is a review of the ARINC 429 connection.  Has anybody interfaced their unit to a GNS 430/530?  How does that work?  What does the traffic screen look like?  Any pictures?  Many thanks in advance.

Jose Monroy is working on the software for the 429 interface and hopes to have it ready for deployment by late summer. Since I live near him I'm hoping to be one of the first installations to flip the switch.

You've now responded to me with that same claim twice (in this thread, no less, separated by months).

Just to make things clear, the STC simply shows the device will not interfere with the aircraft operation and can be wired to ships power, not that it performs some function well. In other words, the STC does not imply (to any extent at all) that the Monroy is "better" at detecting traffic than the XRX.

You're thinking of TSO C147, which provides minimum standards of performance for a traffic alerting system.

(And neither the Monroy or the Zaon meet the TSO).

The Fliegermagazin is IMHO not one of the best aviation magazines available. Their conclusion is that the external antenna is a drawback as it is not portable anymore....It seems they don't realize that it is the only way to get a good reception.

I'd buy the Monroy as soon they have the serial interface to the Garmin 496/696.
