Hello everyone. I am currently a Piper owner and ready to step up to my next aircraft.  I do a lot of cross country flying and am tired of only being  able to travel no more than 100kts.  I am hoping to see if there are any Mooney owners in the NE Ohio area. I would love to see some Mooney's and speak about the different models and would also love the opportunity to go up in a few to see how they fly in comparison to my Cherokee. I am hoping to purchase in the Next 12 months and will probably spend between 50and 70k.   I would gladly travel to you and will share expenses to be able to go up in one.  Thanks for your time.  I am based at 15g in Wadsworth Ohio

Thank you. Yes it is.  I am ppl now working on Instrument rating. Been licensed 1 year and already have 200 hours and 80 of which are cross country. I'm semi retired and think I may want to pursue cfi but not until next year. I really love flying but my 140 just stinks with a decent headwind!

Flying a 180 in a headwind convinced me. Doing 69 knots heading west out of Hilton head island.  I owned a Mooney 6 months later.

However, the nice thing about that is you can step out of the airplane, relieve yourself, and not have to run too fast to be able to catch up and get back in!

I don't know how close it is to you, but go by the New Philadelphia, OH airport and ask for Dennis. He's been flying Mooney's for the last 20 years or so. Of course it might not be a good idea to go up in his plane as he's recently stepped up to an Acclaim S.

I'm at Ashland County, 3G4. Live next to airport. I have  C and there is an F on the field. Glad to show and share. We're a good group here. Stop by. Ask for Dave (aka Captain).

Paul Giannobile (N5900Q) is another New Philadephia regular.  He actually has a home and hangar on a private strip, but is active in the local chapter.  He's the guy I bought my Spruce Creek, FL Airpark home from.

Another guy down in that area is Joe Treppicone based at KDLZ.  Actually his Lancair propjet he's building is at KDLZ, not sure if he's keeping his recently purchased (in the last 30 days) Mooney there or at KOSU.

great - thanks for the feedback...R u from the UP?? I grew up just south of Green Bay..

Also - since this plane will obviously be more complex than my fixed gear - what should I make sure has been completed or recently completed so I am not hit with a huge inspection right after I purchase the Mooney?? ( IE - fuel bladders, landing gear issues. ??)  Thanks again for all of the advice!!

Yep.  Bonified Yooper.   Where near Green Bay?  My daughter lives in DePere.

I just flew the Lancair into Appleton for follow up on thumb surgery (Hand to Shoulder Clinic of Wisconsin).  Landed on north runway and started turning the wrong way on the taxiway.  Guess I hadn't been down there since they moved the FBO.  The line guys really liked the Lancair.

Hi, I just found this post while researching Mooney's.  I have never been in one and was wondering the same thing in Ohio.  I am looking to buy - based out of KCGF.  Any guidance would be great or if I can tag along with the show and tell!

Wow!  This makes me feel like my Cessna140 is fast!  It does at least 100 knots air speed true on a touch over 5 GPH.  My Mooney goes point A to point B on less fuel than my 140 and gets there in much less time.

For your budget you can find a nice example of whichever model you want, C, E or F.  Do a proper prebuy with a Mooney savvy IA.  You will love a Mooney.

Thanks for the response yeah I really do like my piper it flies great easy to fly but it's just so darn slow. At least half of my flying is cross country now so I really do want something that's a little bit more efficient TimeWise. And I will rarely fly with more than 3 people so not sure which model will be best for me but when I started diggingI'm sure I'll figure it out

A short body like a C or F will work well with three people.  With only one in the back he/she can sit on one side with their feet in the other footwell rather comfortably.  Two adults that are not small don't work out well in the backseat.  For two in the back, you should consider a long body like an F or J.

Just to be correct... sorry, OCD.

B, C, D, E - Short body
F, G, J, K - Mid-body
Bravo, Ovation, Acclaim - Long body

It's not obvious, but leg room in the back seat is directly related to the height of the front seat occupants. If the pilot is 5'9" or shorter, there is likely room for an adult in the back seat. If the pilot is 6' or taller, there probably isn't room in the back seat of a Short body Mooney.

I am 6'1", but I think I am long wasted.  I fly with the seat forward.  Sandy is 5'4" so she leaves some room behind her.  I still don't think that two 6 footers would be comfortable in the back for very long.  Haven't tried it yet though, so I might be in for a pleasant surprise.

Sandy and I leave tomorrow for Europe.  We will be back in three weeks and have a short flight with friends planned for then.  We will see how it works out.
