Sabremech Posted April 8, 2017 Author Report Posted April 8, 2017 (edited) Removed the last baffle and then pulled the prop to install the new spinner bulkhead. I also put my top cowling on to check fit with the spinner. Edited April 8, 2017 by Sabremech 8 Quote
jamesm Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 (edited) Looks great. For the baffling assembly are you planning to use nut plates as oppose to tinner man nuts or sheet metal screws ? James '67C Edited April 8, 2017 by jamesm Quote
Sabremech Posted April 8, 2017 Author Report Posted April 8, 2017 Hi James, The doghouse is gone. No more screws or tinnerman nuts. I'm installing open baffling with seals to the cowling. Thanks, David 4 Quote

par Posted April 15, 2017 Report Posted April 15, 2017 will my 63c ever be able to accept one of these? Quote
Sabremech Posted April 15, 2017 Author Report Posted April 15, 2017 The plan is to do a cowling for the early models when I finish the 66 and ups! David 2 Quote

jamesm Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 Hi David, looks great If for any reason one should have to remove the engine baffles , does the baffles come off as one piece or drill out the rivets or ???? Thanks, James '67C Quote
Raptor05121 Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 These are the baffles and cooling pathways these engines should have been designed with from the factory. Great work, David. Quote

mike20papa Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 These are "out of the box" Vans - right? With the James Holy Cowls Plenum makes an unbeatable installation. To bad it's a "no brainer" to everyone except the FAA! They should be aiding you to develop the STC - instead of beating you to death with regs and paper. 1 Quote

It is Van's baffling with some modifications to the front cylinder baffles to make them fit the Mooney cowling. I chose not to use the Jame's aircraft plenum. Quote
takair Posted April 22, 2017 Report Posted April 22, 2017 Do you need to stiffen the upper cowl without the doghouse? I can't recall when they went away from the thin sheetmetal of my 64. Curious about the hoist. Do you need to pull engine mounts to do the install? Can't wait till you have the erparlier models. Quote
Sabremech Posted April 22, 2017 Author Report Posted April 22, 2017 No stiffening of the upper cowl needed as the doghouse never touched the cowl other than the forward seal. I just need to loosen the upper mounts to get clearance to install the left rear baffle. Thanks, Quote
Sabremech Posted April 26, 2017 Author Report Posted April 26, 2017 Getting closer to having the baffling complete. This is the most time consuming part of the modification. 6 Quote

Looks great David! So the air filter will go on the front right side as shown in the bottom picture? 2 Quote
Sabremech Posted April 26, 2017 Author Report Posted April 26, 2017 The air filter is in the left cooling inlet which in the picture is on the right side. Sounds weird typing that. 1 Quote

Sabremech Posted April 28, 2017 Author Report Posted April 28, 2017 The baffling is almost complete, so time to mod the cowling. 7 Quote
jamesm Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 David , Looks like you are moving along with the cowl mod. What it the diameter of your new air inlets ? Thanks, James Quote
