Last year I fixed my static drain and this year I fixed the pitot drain. Total cost is about $2 and takes about an hour. I know some people like to drill out the base but I just unscrewed the mechanism out, cleaned with denaturalized alcohol and replaced the seal IAW http://www.mooney.com/en/sb/M20-167.pdf

leak tested afterward and working well

Over the years I have cleaned and replaced the seat/seal on the static drain a number of times. A couple of years ago, the routine cleaning no longer worked since the seat had gotten pretty rusty and the slight grounding down of the rust wouldn't allow the rubber seal to seal anymore. I ended up replacing the entire static port drain. $127 from Lasar.

At some point, was there an SB or something that changed the static port lines to go to the top of the tail cone before going to the T?  mine doesn't have a drain valve and the T is on  the roof of the tail.  water would have to pressurize and travel up the static lines about 18" before arriving to the T..  ???

Minus the base itself this is the non-FAA approved part for $7:) Offered only for humor...
