merrja Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 Hi All, I am a longtime Mooney pilot (about 12 years of Mooney exp and about 1600 hours TT) with an instrument rating. After attending a few aerodynamics forums at Oshkosh this year I realized that I would like some advance instruction in recovery in my Mooney for"inadvertent transgression of the flight envelope" I'm based in NC and will happily travel for an outstanding Mooney instruction. Thanks so much for you help! Cheers! Jim Quote
gsengle Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 Go attend a MAPA PPP course. That's where you'll get all of that and more. Highly recommend and they are held around the country. It's where the Mooney instructors are.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
Hank Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 +1. The PPPs are great, and often yiur instructor will be experienced in the same model thatyou have. Quote
carusoam Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 +1 For PPP... +1 for getting to know some Mooney specific instructors. PPP gets tailored to your needs as a Mooney pilot. If you spend the weekend on the usual stuff, you now know somebody that you can call for the less usual stuff! Best regards, -a- Quote
Oldguy Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 I second Anthony's note on the PPP and the Mooney-specific instructors. An additional plus is meeting other Mooney pilots and learning from their experiences. There is a PPP coming up in February in Ft. Myers, FL - not a bad spot for a weekend in February and not a bad ride from your part of the country. 1 Quote
Bob_Belville Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 I am in NC as well, with about 2700 hours in Mooneys. I enjoyed a recent Mooney Safety Foundation PPP (I flew up to Manchester NH in September) and add my recommendation. Also there is a list of Mooney specific CFIIs in the Mooney Flyer. http://www.themooneyflyer.com/ I have flown with Mike Elliott (FL) and Lee Fox (VA) and recommend both. You might also talk to Brandon NeSmith who is not listed but is an excellent instructor with a lot of Mooney experience. He flies corporate but still maintains Table Rock Aviation - Hickory and Morganton: http://tablerockaviation.com/pages/flight-training/ 2 Quote
Zwaustin Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 Another plus 1 for PPP, did one in Dallas last year, money well spent. Instructors are Mooney pilots and some Mooney owners. Quote
Danb Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 Jim, Bobs got the big picture while you might not get the advanced training you request in the normal class, the list of instructors he provided and the items you would want on a continuing basis would be in the Mooney flyer or you could contact Trey at MAPA for a list of Mooney instructors reasonably near you. I attend the courses on a yearly basis. This year I had an instructor close to home base who will provide me advanced instruction as I require throughout the year. So +1 for Bobs recommendation 1 Quote
