  1. UPDATE: I was able to find an instructor to meet me at the airport where it was hangared. He trained me, signed my endorsement, and I got to fly it home. He taught me a lot, but wasn't very familiar with Mooneys. I've got a few leads on a Mooney specialists in my area, for some more detailed training. I appreciate the help. I've just bought a 1963 M20D. Proud to be part of the Mooney family. I am looking for an instructor to help me get my complex endorsement. I do have my PPL, and about 60 hours, but they are all in 172s. The plane has been checked out by a mechanic and is ready to fly. Unfortunately, it is in Mt. Vernon IL (KMVN) and my home airport is Nashville (KJWN). My best two options seem to be: A. Find a Nashville instructor, travel to Mt. Vernon somehow, bring the plane home, and have the lessons as both of our schedules allow. Or B. Find a Mt. Vernon instructor, do a four day weekend crash course, and hope that is enough to earn the endorsement. If you are not an instructor, and know someone, any leads would be appreciated. Thank you.
  2. Folks, Looking for another assist. I'm in the final stages of purchasing an M20F. Insurance says I have to have 5 hours of dual transition training. They subsequently allowed 3 hours in an M20J locally with the final 2 in my plane (manual gear). So, I'm looking for an instructor with the following (or near the following and I'd petition the insurance co.) 500 total hours 100 hours in retractable gear 25 hours in make and model I suspect they'd agree to 25 hours in a manual gear M20. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Side note: I have a friend planning to fly back with me who owns a JBar Mooney...he's not an instructor though. Heading into town on 16 May (wed), looking to complete my last two hours on Thursday, 17 May. My friend shows up on Thursday and we're hoping to depart on Friday. I know...square peg...round hole...how much harder can I make this.
  3. Hi All, I am a longtime Mooney pilot (about 12 years of Mooney exp and about 1600 hours TT) with an instrument rating. After attending a few aerodynamics forums at Oshkosh this year I realized that I would like some advance instruction in recovery in my Mooney for"inadvertent transgression of the flight envelope" I'm based in NC and will happily travel for an outstanding Mooney instruction. Thanks so much for you help! Cheers! Jim
  4. Hey all, I live in Jupiter, FL, and I'm shopping for a Mooney that's fast, bells and whistles, turbocharged, etc. I'm just doing initial research, but I do need a few things in specific: Good A&P services for pre-buy inspection, as well as regular maintenance, and one that's familiar with the Mooney types. Other service providers like 02, avionics, etc, and tips on where you go would also be useful. I live near F45, or maybe SUA, but FPR or VRB might be my home field for a while if I buy soon. I'm also open to any tips or advice on things to look for with certain types during the pre-buy inspection and annuals. I'm a total newbie, so I'm tapping the knowledge base here. Oh- I'm an ATP with 6k+ hours, but I'm definitely looking for instruction to check me out in type and get me salty. Many thanks in advance. - Firebird
  5. Hello all I am in the last phase of the purchase of a Mooney 20 E. I believe this one will go through. I must travel to California and pick it up. I am planning on my Christmas vacation from work, I get two weeks off. Then Northeast from San Francisco to lake tahoe--salt lake (Malad City vor) --rock springs vor--Medicine Bow vor then Im out of the mountains and on to altoona . About 1900 miles over 14 days if needed VFR only--daylight I need some time in a Mooney,I am looking for anyone who will let me fly with them, I do not have to be PIC . I'm looking to familiarize myself with the aircraft before I head out to California where I will get some duel time. An older Mooney M 20 E is best But anything is great. I will pay for your costs etc. CFI's with a Mooney Yes (cant find any ) I live in central Pa ,near Altoona Pa. I have flown about a hour in a 64 M20C a long time ago. I have about 157 hours , I owned a Grumman Traveler AA5 , I have a high performance sign off . Flew a Piper Tomahawk las t weekend , its kind of different . Im VFR not instrument rated Any thought on any part of this ? Carl
