FloridaMan Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 When you turn your master off, does the gauge go to zero? Have you tried firmly pressing on the gauge with your thumb? I had the same issue and noticed that when I turned the master off, the gauge didn't go to zero. I pressed on the gauge and the reading moved. Turned the master on and it read correctly. Then I bought an engine monitor. Quote
bonal Posted June 14, 2016 Author Report Posted June 14, 2016 Was going to do the heat test yesterday but moved my annual inspection up because I need the plane over the first and cant jump the extra month so will be doing the heat test with the hot plate while its in for annual and once I confirm the gauge is the issue will look into a replacement. JPI has a certified digital that I can use most likely what will go in. if its truly an oil temp problem will be looking into corrections while its apart Quote
1964-M20E Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 I have the EI oil pressure and temp digital gauge and it works nice. Quote
bonal Posted June 15, 2016 Author Report Posted June 15, 2016 Day one at annual and did the temp test with the stove calibrated thermometer shows my gauge reads 20 degrees high will be getting the JPI gauge but don't know if I can before annual done I'm hoping for my first routine inspection at least I know my oil is not too hot. 1 Quote

Glad that you found the trouble. Can the gauge be adjusted instead of replaced? Airparts of Lockhaven does some of the older gauges. Clarence Quote
bonal Posted June 15, 2016 Author Report Posted June 15, 2016 It was bench calibrated by Kelly Instruments when they overhauled the cluster and they said if I wanted to I could send it back to be adjusted no charge I may take that option will call them tomorrow to discuss Quote
