San Diego Mooney pilots?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking to meet fellow Mooney pilots here in San Diego and southern California for fly outs. Right now, I am considering either a 252/231/Bravo as my Mooney purchase.

Prices are pretty good right now. At first I considered other models outside of Mooney but a newer Mooney is faster and less expensive than a Cirrus, Cessna, or Bonanza.

Morning Scott,

I spend a lot of weekdays in the Carlsbad, CA area and started flying a 20K last August. I'm not a Mooney expert but after 150+ hours in the aircraft and being an A&P/IA, I might be able to help answer some of your questions.

I was looking at other aircraft for my commute from Texas to Colorado. Mooney wasn't on my list of aircraft for a number of reasons until I found one and started doing my homework.

Let me know how I can help

Bob

Hello Scott. I recently moved to San Diego parked at Gillespie. Have a 201 purchased last year. So kind of new to the airplane but if you ever want to meet and talk/fly I'd be happy to meet you and other Mooney owners in the SD area.

Speaking of which.. I see mostly east coast or midwest caravan training.. Can we bring some to the west again? Yuma?

We did a mini-clinic in July in Chino. We fly all the time. If I had known you were interested, you'd have been invited. Sign up to be notified at the website and get on the email chain. There is a clinic in Visalia next month and Yuma happens every February. Last year we had 35 aircraft including warbirds and a racing Lancair!

Start training yourself anytime. Read the Guide and watch the ground clinic video. All are online, open to the public. Then come out, grab a safety and get flying.

KCRQ here, also a member of the Mooney Caravan "Best Coast" flyers. I'm usually at the airport every couple days, and always down to fly places and do things. I know there are a few others around SD as well.

Hey Dallas! K.. I want in! How do I do that?? Do we get badges? :)

Call signs could be posted on one's avatar or signature block, no?

It would help other Mooney flyers recognize your membership in the hallowed formation flying organization.

It may only help the memory challenged.  MSname, call sign, actual name,  so complex.... :)

Thinking out loud,

Visalia is not a Mooney-only event, and is organized by one of our fellow type groups. Anyone interested pm me. It's 21-23 October.

Every newbie needs a safety pilot, so dumping a bunch of newbie Mooney pilots without lining up adequate Mooney safeties to fly with them would be poor form. So I will need to coordinate to ensure our newbies have safeties and Mooney pilots remain welcome at future events.

I will be posting on the Caravan email and so if you're interested, please sign-up so you will get those emails.

Welcome Scott. Plan for Yuma in February, that's an excellent newbie event. Once you've gotten basic maneuvers down, you'll be able to arrive at OSH in style.

Since you're from SoCal, you'll benefit from many local pilots who meet up often to practice. Some of us fly across country together to MSN, from which our group stages into OSH.

Look forward to meeting you.

Kelty and JohnB,

I've circulated info via Caravan email group. So if you've signed up, you received my email. If you've not, pm me.

If I know in advance, I will ensure you've got a safety pilot when you arrive. Please read the Guide and watch the ground video -- both are available under the Training tab.

If you can't make Visalia, plan for Yuma in February. Hope to see you sometime!

Got your email about Visalia. Unfortunately thats the exact same weekend as the Mooney Homecoming in Kerville which I was planning on attending, and the Aviation Expo is also that weekend. But I would love to do Yuma! Is there a firm date established in February, much easier for me if I know well in advance of a firm date so I can arrange my schedule to attend.
