Lui Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 Any one has an idea where I can purchase alternator mounting bushings for a model Aly 8520R kelly aerospace alternator ?
carusoam Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 Welcome aboard Lui. It seems that Kelly Aerospace uses other sales organizations externally... You may want to call people like these... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=ALY8520R your mechanic may have an account with Aviall... Or use someone off this list... http://www.kellyaerospace.com/distributors.html Have your part numbers handy. Best regards, -a-
Lui Posted March 11, 2016 Author Report Posted March 11, 2016 Thank you .kelly aerospace got bought by Hartzell Technologies. I called tech support and they gave me the part number , I did a google search and parts base search but to no availl . I have contacted several places but no luck .The previous shop that overhauled it says that they have the splined bushings but would not sell them to me .They will replace them if I send it for overhaul .The alt works fine . I will keep trying I will notify you all when I find a source . This seems to be a common problem on the M20J . Thanks
carusoam Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 I visited the hartzell website. It covers the ALY 8520R alternator. But doesn't have the detail for an installation kit. I get the feeling that they may not want to sell to just anybody... I expect a phone call to their customer service people asking them how you (or your mechanic) can purchase the parts you need. Alternator mounting bushings are known to wear. They are in a tough environment. The sales organization that hartzell points to is here.... http://hartzell.aero/distributor/ Best regards, -a-
Lui Posted March 11, 2016 Author Report Posted March 11, 2016 Thanks guys ! I contacted Hartzell Technologies again this morning to confirm part number ALE0020 ( bushing ) and asked them for a supplier , I called their supplier but they said that they did not recognize the part number and did not have a part number to provide me , called Aviall but they did not recognize the part number either , called Spruce but they could not help me either .any help will be greatly appreciated .
N601RX Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Does the Lycoming parts manual show the bushing or give a Lycoming part number? If it does then it should by available from aircraft specialties. If Hartzell is the only source then you might find one on eBay.
slowflyin Posted March 12, 2016 Report Posted March 12, 2016 Hartzell sent me the wrong part for my alternator install. Maybe we will get lucky and you can use it. You need to call Lycoming and give them the serial number off of your engine. They pulled the microfiche for my exact engine-(serial number specific) and identified the correct part number in about five minutes. I was really appreciative and totally impressed. In my case the Lycoming manual showed a few different variants. Only by checking the assembly sheet for my serial number did I get things moving.
