I have a 1965 M20C. when I push the key in to start (extreme right position) the electrical, system totally dies. can reset the master and power is restored. Bad starter? is there a breaker in the master switch?

Clean all terminals to shiny bright status. Service battery.  Check master relay. What model plane?

What kind of starter?

It could be that the starter is over drawing on amps... but not likely...

I too suspect a bad connection somewhere.  Do not forget to check ground connections too !!

To eliminate battery.   Put voltmeter directly on battery and have assistant push key in.. If voltage on battery drops below 10 it is bad.

I suspect it will stay up and you lose V on the buss due to a bad connection.
