We waited for that band to move out and then departed.  We filed IFR and were VMC most of the way and then shot the GPS 14 back into GAI.  We broke out 3 miles from the runway and there was a 172 working the pattern.  It was light rain at that point.  Very smooth for us on the way back - you must have flown through or on the edge of the band that we waited out.

A pleasure meeting you and looking forward to future flights.

Interesting... I had moderate rain most of the way through. After takeoff I was in IMC right away and then in moderate rain, followed b moderate chop most of the way until KGAI.   In the climb out I even got carb ice... (JPI Thank you!!!). Once I got the alarm that carb temp was getting low, I turn carb heat on, and I felt the ice melting with the corresponding drop in RPM and later increase...KGAI was visual but with rain.

Looking forward to other flights too.

We had a good fly in breakfast this morning.  Three Mooney's, a Bonanza, and a convertible (Ross based at HGR).  The 8 of us shared a fun but quick breakfast as the weather did move in within about 90 minutes of arrival.

As noted Oscar has the most weather on return and two Mooney's waited out that band by about fifteen minutes.

I'll post next month's breakfast flight location and date soon.

It is always such a treat to finally put names to faces and also catch up with fellow pilots.

Take care,

-Seth

That's quite alright Tony.

However just to be clear, Obama is not there and P-40 (Camp David) is just as usually published today which means avoid the inner ring and that outer ring is nothing.

Lets get together the next time you are in town!

We certainly will ! I will have many more trips there. I knew I had a hard day of flying to get home and the kids had a home inspection going on at their soon to be new house that I needed to look over too (instead of playing)

I filed for 10k fully expecting to go higher but after a few minutes and ice building as soon as I got to 10k, I chickened out and dropped back to 8k. Even there I was fighting 30-40kt headwinds. Due to the line of weather, I took a roundabout direction home. Around 2 hours or so of solid IMC, quite a bit of rain and an approach at home, 4:12 minute trip compared to 2:47 going up which is about a no wind time.

Like my pilot buddy texted me after I landed "I'm tired from just watching you on Flight Aware" :-)

Seth, thanks for putting this meeting together. If you all ever want to come again, there is a second restaurant on the field called The Airport Inn. It is also has delicious food, but access is such that it's about a 3/4 mile away from the FBO. Would be a great lunch spot. I could arrange ground transport.

Sounds great and I'll swing by sometime for sure.

You made the right choice to save your cognative total stress level for the long cross country.  Even if weather was fine for the departure,  you would have used up some brain power just coming to breakfast and chatting.

Let us know the next time you'll be in town and we'll work something out.  Glad you had a safe arrival, and yes, it looks like the flight was a lot of work.
