airbusflyboy Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 Does anyone know for sure, what the engine model or models were used on a 1957 MO-20A ? I am not sure if it was a Lycoming 0-320 or 0-360 ? This particular plane has a Hartzell constant speed prop HC-82VL-1D ............ does this prop have the recurring AD problems ??? Any reliable information is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks, Mark
KSMooniac Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 Best to check the type certificate on the FAA website to see what it should have. It could have been changed in the last 59 years, though, via STC or field approval. http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_library/rgMakeModel.nsf/0/60107bc8954c93a686256c24005b5075/$FILE/2A3.pdf The M20 had an O-320, and the M20A had an O-360, but the TC date for the A is in 1958, so I wonder exactly which plane you're looking at...
airbusflyboy Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 It is a 1957 ....... Looks like the Lycoming 0-320 is correct ......... Aircraft been restored , work done on wings and engine , mechanic and owner passed away but no sign offs in the logbooks .......... Tons of paperwork and no missing logs
carusoam Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 First there was an M20 Then there was an M20A There are a handful of M20As around here... really early Mooneys came with the 150hp engines. Early 60's 180hp was standard. Mid 60's 200hp became the new version of standard. Today 310 hp.... Wooden planes take a fare amount of care above and beyond the metal and plastic ones. Research how you are going to take care of this plane and what the related costs are going to be. I would not expect the ordinary shops in the Mooney world would have the wood working skills that may be required. Research the differences between the metal and wooden tail. Somebody posted pictures of bare wooden wings recently. They are a piece of flying art! These are some ideas that come to mind. I am not familiar with wooden planes. Best regards, -a-
