Fritz Kaiser Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 Hello boys , I'm complete fed up with my two gill batteries! After 25 day not flying both batteries quit the service. Now its time to change to concorde ..... what do you recommend? RG24 11 ? RG24 11M ? RG24 15 or RG24 15m The bird is a '95 O1 thanks for your help in advance Fritz Quote
Jeff_S Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 The prior owner of my plane installed two RG24-15 just a few months before I bought my plane. I'm not sure what the difference in the "m" version is, cuz all I did is just look at the logs. But they have behaved very well. Quote

RG24 15 or RG24 15m Get the 15, since they are are rated at 15 amp hours, rather than 11. Since you had vented batteries before, get the 15M since "it features a manifold to facilitate direct replacement of the originally designed manifold vented battery." Both the 15 and the 15M will fit and they are the same price. The "m" is a few mm bigger but will still fit. http://www.concordebattery.com/aviationbattery-volts.php The 15 & 15M are both rated for exactly the same performance. http://www.concordebattery.com/aviationbattery.php Then if you want to always have plenty of starting power and get max life out of the batteries get one of these: http://www.batteryminders.com/24-volt-aircraft-battery-charger-24041-AA-S5 It exercises the battery when not is use and desulfates it. I have both of mine hooked up to the batteryminder with this: http://www.batteryminders.com/multiple-battery-connector-210-AY With 2 concordes and the batteryminder and Y adaptor you'll be into it for about $1300, but they should last 7-10 years rather than 2 Gills at $800 every 2-3 years. When I had Gills I had them on a Gill Specific Battery Minder and still got only a little over two years. Plus when they go it's never at the right time - a huge hassle. 2 Quote
Guest Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 We just had our first failure of a Concord battery in a customers airplane. Initially we were told by Concord "sorry it's out of warranty by 2 month, the best we'll do is prorate it". A call to a second tech rep got a new full replacement. Clarence Quote
M20F Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 Go with the 15, price difference is minimal. You can't go wrong with more power, ever! I have an RG-35AXC and love it especially when it is cold out. Quote
carusoam Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 Clarence, Is it possible that Concord has no customer service experience. Gill has too much... Fritz, Look for the weight of the Battery. If it has more capacity, it probably has more weight. I would gladly get more battery capacity swapped in for less Charlie weight in the tail. Last we looked in the POH or MM, there was a Concorde battery listed as primary and Gill was alternative...(old fuzzy memory) Best regards, -a- Quote
