Curious as to what our options are these days for turbonormalizing the IO360 in the J?

Are there even any viable options anymore?

go buy the STC from them. From my understanding, the gentleman who developed it passed away, and the family were disinterested in selling the kits. I bet you could buy the STC for less than a Kit costs.

The M20 Turbo was developed by a fellow named Bill Sandman. He also developed the small oil/air separator you see now and again. When he died, his widow tried to run the turbo business but was unable to do it. I worked with her for some time trying to figure the whole thing out but discovered many of the  parts suppliers were either out of business or had merged with someone else. At least one indicated he wasn't interested in doing it any longer.

With that, I chucked the idea and bought my 231. In doing some market analysis, I couldn't see that there were sufficient aircraft that might be interested to make it worth it.

You would be incorrect in that bet.  ;)

You'd still need to buy the STC for the barnstormer adds..

. I think John Breda, was trying to sell his 360 system completely new, all drawings, paperwork, STC, turbo, exhaust, clamps, the entire deal...

He wanted $14k originally and I don't think it sold. Considering the performance gain, and difficulty to source another vendor, it might be a nice investment for a guy with a sweet 201! I thought it was a little steep for my old 65E.

I like 11.5 and 12.5 in our E but the power is really down. It would be bad ass to pull 28" at 12.5 in the E!! My TAS is maxed out between 7-9k ft, so I have been running there lately.

Good Luck Pete!

Yes - I still have the RayJay turbonormalizer system for sale.  The system is rebuilt (essentially new) made with 1 gauge heavier stainless steel as the original and the wastegate is considerable beefier (which was a problem

with the RayJay system).  I have all the major parts.  Some people called me about the system but did not really understand what I had and what it is worth.  I actually had two such systems, rebuilt and the other sold in 2007 for $20,000.00.

I was asking $15,000.00.  I have bot STC's (one for turbonormalizing the engine and another for putting the modified engine into the airframe), all diagrams, parts manual. installation manual, POH instruction and referenced blueprints.  I now have my plane in Boston and am trying to clear away parts.  I have a turbo that is not rebuilt that will allow me to sell the system for even less money).  I would be willing to sell for $12,750.00.  This is a great deal given that these systems are unavailable, especially in the condition of this system.  I also have a write up and had built a prototype to allow putting an intercooler and pop-off valve into the older system which would make it functionally the same as the M20 system except for a manual waste gate (which actually is a benefit over the fixed waste gate).  If you are putting this system into an E or F, it is simply a log book entry stating you are complying with the STC.   If you were putting this into a J you would need a DER to sign it off.  I know of such a DER you could use.  It was the same one I was going to use to install the intercooler and pop-off valve.

I would like to see this system out of my hangar and in the hands of someone who can put it to good use.  It make the airplane a 175-180 kt airplane at 18,000ft buring 11-12 gph.

If you search JayJay or turbonormalizer or turbo you should find my old posts with pictures.

John has the most valuable piece which is the airframe STC, it is no longer available. You can find the Rayjays, cowling, parts, and engine STC easy enough. The one missing piece for a new install though is the airframe STC.

The other aspect of this that is unavailable is the exhaust and wastegate.  No one will build a new system without an old run-out system to start with.  Further, you would need the welding jigs to make the exhaust parts.

The man that made mine used to work at RayJay and had the original jigs which he took with him when he left the company.  I needed to purchase an old run-out system (for $5,000-$6,000 each) in order to have the parts to "rebuild" and make new parts.  Given the paperwork, and new parts, what I am offering is quite unique and you will not find it elsewhere.
