Garmin 496 updates with a Mac

Has anyone been able to recently update their Garmin GPS via a Mac?  I cant seem to get the Garmin Communicator Plugin to work....it will say it installs but then when you go to the web site it says its missing.  Then the Garmin Web Updater program does not see the 496.  I have a Macbook Air running the most current OS.
