dcrogers11 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Hello all, As mentioned in another topic, my '64 C in going to get some major upgrades including Aero Comfort interior, 201 windshield, front cowl enclosure, and a panel makeover. I'm cutting out new panels for both sides and was looking at changing out the old toggle switches and going with rocker swithes for Master, Avionics, and AP. Also, I would like to go with a cluster setup of square annuciator lights for the various alerts that are spread out over the old panels. I'd prefer not to re-invent the wheel if someone had done this and how they placed them in a vintage sized panel. Please add your pictures if you have any available of your setup. Thanks, Don Quote

The shop doing the work has someone local in the DFW area that does screen printing. The plan is to powder coat the panels then screen print the labelling. He had one that was done and looked nice. They gave an estimate of $100 for screen printing. Quote

I'm trying to figure out what all can be fit radio and GPS-wise. Is there ever any issue with the depth of trays like there is on my Cherokee? Quote
N601RX Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I used the ptouch labels also. I used their pc software to lay them out. Don't try to make 15 different labels and get them all ligned up. Just make one long label with all the words spaced correctly. I used clear material with black letters. For annunciators look at EATON 582/584 series indicators. You can buy these as indicators only without the switches. You can also get them with different lettering on the upper and lower half. They will custom label them any way you want them labeled. Bezels are also available to hold multiple indicators together and make them appear as one. Quote

Made the 6- pack configuration with a S-tec 30A/P...HSI-JPI 700 with fuel flow-IFR Garmin 300 -KX155w/GS- Davtron timer/clock audio panel along with taking out all guesses and went with circuit breakers...post lights over the instruments too.... I used label maker tape (white on clear ) turned out nicely. I'll try to load pics Quote
M20F-1968 Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 If you are going to fabricate a new panel and powder coat it, it can also very easily be silk screened which is the way to go. Take a look at my panel in my gallery. I will have some new pictures in the near future when my plane will be completed. In answer to the depth question regarding room behind the panel, this is definitely a concern. For me, I changed the structural cage to look like the new airplanes and installed the stub tubes so that I could install an instrument panel bow and an Ovation style panel. This allowed me to install radios in the center as well. This was done with DER approval. The rocker switches can be engraved. You can contact me if you want additional info.
