Steve65E-NC Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I sat in my cockpit today for 30 minutes trying to figure this one out. I would probably have purchased these two items long ago if I could just figure out how to sto them so easily accessable to seated pilot. Otherwise a waste of money (IMHO). Just could not see a place without creating incumbrance or clutter. Best I could think of was maybe two tubes, one buried in each side of pilot seat cushion. I have a larger extinguisher mounted next to baggage door for ramp or wreck fires. I carry a fair amount of safety gear but try to limit it too stuff that I can see how to access when I need it. How have others solved this problem?? Quote

DonMuncy Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I tried mounting my fire extinguisher on the copilot seat adjustment rod, and didn't like it very well. It go in the way entering and exiting the plane. I ended up putting it between the two back seats in my 231. I don't think it would interfere with rear seat occupants, which I virtually never carry anyway. I mounted mine with what I call super Velcro (available at Radio Shack). My handheld stays in the end pocket of my flight bag. Quote
manu damaschin Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I have installed mine in the front of the back seats... By the way I saw in other type of aircrafts the fire extinguisher mounted under the instruments panel (copilot side), with a cable for activation and the deployment is only in the engine compartment (via some tubes)...Is this possible for mooneys? kortopates Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I also installed my Halon extinguisher on the floor between the rear two seat I/A/W the mooney drawing in the IPC for the M20K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
PTK Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 On floor in front of back seats as in Mooney drawing. Quote
BigTex Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I did what Jim mentioned above by using some collars made by Don (Thanks Don!). It works great for me. It sticks out some but not enough to get in the way. Quote
Steve65E-NC Posted June 1, 2014 Author Report Posted June 1, 2014 How do you mount it to the co-pilot pull bar without risking that odd angle G loads will release the seat to slide?? Quote
BigTex Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 Not sure I'm following Steve... Maybe you can provide some more details on your concerns with this mounting? It would have to be pretty odd to provide enough negative g loading to release the seat. Quote
Steve65E-NC Posted June 1, 2014 Author Report Posted June 1, 2014 Gary, Fly through some moderate to severe turbulance with everything lose, including the pilot, hitting the ceiling and you will understand what I mean. Just duck through some of those building cumulus columns instead of flying around them. Steve Quote
