animalmover Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Hi All, I can't seem to find a part number for my glass gascolator. Any ideas? I'm trying to replace the silicone gaskets and don't want to remove to replace until I have new parts. Thanks Chris Quote
kerry Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I make my gascolator gaskets out of cork gasket material and I apply the smallest amount of silicone possible. With out the silicone mine will leak over time when I turn on my electric boost pump. Quote
orionflt Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I didn't say this.... Tractor supply.......My gascolator on my mooney is the same one installed on my old farm tractor, you do the math. 1 Quote
Dcflyn Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 This gascolator? Mine won't drain and I suspect needs new o-rings. I've pulled it from the plane, but I don't know how to get it apart to expose the o-rings. Any tips? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
N601RX Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Your missing some parts from yours. The manual may show them. I can make a picture next time I'm at the airport, I currently have the bottom side opened up. Quote
carusoam Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Two different issues... I think... (1) DC is showing an aluminum version similar to my 65C... My 65C's gascolater would get clogged by materials that settled on the down side of the screen... If you have the mild steal fuel necks at the top of the tanks... They rust and flake tiny tidbits that fit through the screen and pack up the drain... Get the SS alternative (2) the OP is talking about a glass version of the same device, but the older design. Best regards, -a- Quote
orionflt Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 his gascolator is a glass bowl style located in the nose wheel well, in later models the changed the style and location. Brian Quote
Dcflyn Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I pulled the screen and it didn't show any particles. That's good, but the part that looks like a tiny butter churn won't work properly. I suspect we'll get it serviced. Another $250 I suspect. :-/ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
animalmover Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Always amazed at the amount of knowledge on the board! Thanks All Quote
carusoam Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 The C's butter churn shaft is mildish steel? Mine 'rusted' a notch in itself. The notch caused challenges with its (not it's?) operation. Getting the proper SS replacement part is key. Good project for an owner to work with his mechanic.... Definitely check the shaft for completeness... Water was a challenge for 65 Cs, stored outside, with mild steal fuel necks.... Best regards, -a- Quote
Dcflyn Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Carusoam, so where did you find the replacement part? Quote
carusoam Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 My mechanic took care of the detail on that. Unfortunately, it is a memory that won't be coming back... Wish I could further help, -a- Quote
Dcflyn Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 FYI to all...used replacement ranges from $500-$1250. We got several quotes from across the country. Done. Let's see what the weekend holds in store... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
