The carpet in the front of my 77J between the two seats doesn't have an opening for the gear indicator. Is there a plastic piece to finish this or is the opening stitched ? I removed this carpet piece so I could see the indicator but was wondering how to finish it

There are some plastic pieces out there,  they are extremely hard to find.  Laser had 1 for a C, I was going to buy it and rework it, I never did.   My original carpet had the opening stitched and looked good.  My new carpet came without it, I cut a square carefully and it looks OK.  I do not use the floor indicator very often, so it does not bother me.  Someday, I will take it to an upholstery shop and have it stitched.

The carpet came from a K that I was going to use for templates but ended up putting it in. Is the indicator in a different place on a K ?

Thanks for the responses - I think I have a buyer and this one  of the swawks

I may be overly cautious, but I check the floor gear indicator on every landing.

The floor indicator is the only true non-electrical verification of gear position. That said, I had mine break once (the actual Lexan painted piece). It is mechanically attached to the gear mechanism, so it does at least show movement of the hardware.

Ditto, I look at the floor indicator every time on initial deployment of the the gear. My remaining two checks (base leg and short final) are with the lights only. Lee

Mine is a square cut-out with stitching to prevent fraying...not original carpet so no idea what it looked like originally.  I had the "gear down" light fail on me and forgot about that indicator until after the light started working again.  Turns out the light had corroded contacts and stopped working.
