  1. If so, I have a couple of questions about database updates and would love to hit you up via PM. Thanks!
  2. 1986 Mooney 252 w/Encore Mods SN 251047 Price $210,000 N97NM will instantly stand out to the enthusiast, for the Encore specification which was embodied at the Eagle Aircraft in Feb 2007, which removed the 210hp TSIO-360-MB2B and fitted instead a 220hp TSIO-360-SB1B. The propeller governor was also changed, and this coupled with many other mods allowed compatibility with the Encore specification and it’s 3130lbs MTOW. The AS&T TKS de-ice system was installed by Mooney in March 2007 along with wing-mounted landing and taxi lighting. The paint and interior remain original but the aircraft is no less capable for that. The 1986 airframe has 4302hrs TTAF, and the engine has 79hrs SMOH in June 2017. The FAA IFR checks are in date, and the avionics are a GMA-340 Audio panel, King KI-525A HSI, GDC31 GPSS Computer, Garmin GDL69 Datalink, Garmin GMX200, Garmin GNS 480, Shadin ADC200 Fuel Computer, King KFC 150 Autopilot, Garmin GNC 255a Com, King KR-87 ADF, King KN-64 DME and GTX33 remote Transponder. The aircraft is fitted with a colour insight G3 engine monitor, WX900 Stormscope, EI digital RPM, EI digital TIT, Guardian 452 CO2 detector and ELT. Sharp eyes will notice the Speed Brakes, Oxygen System and the TKS/Hot Prop combination. The BEW is 2175lbs and useful load is 955lbs. The aeroplane will be in for its annual if you wish to see it panels off we can arrange that. After the annual, we have an experienced pilot available to demonstrate this enormously capable Mooney to make sure it meets your expectations. We have a great ferry company with lots of on-type experience capable of delivering the aeroplane anywhere in the world. Digital copies of all the aircraft records will be available to interested parties, and we welcome any questions you have. The current owner, who has owned it since 2013, has well-documented trips all over the world in N97NM and we hope to find someone else who can explore the potential of this cult aeroplane. 3. I had XM displayed on my panel (older GMX200). My a/c does not have ADS-B in, besides my Sentry, so the weather was in isolation from other situational awareness. Now I have an iPad Mini on my yoke and find it far preferable for my single source of info. My Mini is the cellular version and I was able to add an unlimited data line for like $10 a month. With the Sentry providing traffic, enroute weather, and the cell updates the weather on the ground, I have the very best solution (for me at least). I will say that having the cell option is pretty important as it really helps provide a complete picture. Having good quality weather on the ground is really important to me. I have also found that for normal cruise altitudes for me 7k-10k, I pick up partial signals enough that the cell weather stay pretty current. When it doesn't, the ADS-B is good enough for enroute. I don't know this for a fact, but it appears the iPad's cellular receiver is better than my phone as I frequently have a LTE signal quite a bit on the iPad and my phone has 'no signal', When I canceled with XM, I assumed they'd offer me some kind of deal to stay. I was pretty polite and just offered that I can get pretty much the same thing for free and it's not worth $40 a month. I'm not sure where I see the value...but probably like $10-15 a month and I'd stay. I guess they prefer my $0 lol.
  4. As part of an upgrade to a GTN750, I have a GMX200 for sale, P/N 011-01271-00. It is yellow tagged from NexAir. I had it paired up with a GNS480, GTX345, and a GDL69A and it showed traffic, weather radar (both ADS-B and SXM), and controlled the satellite audio without issue. In great shape! Includes the config module. It also includes the tray, an extra Garmin SD Card P/N 010-10820-01, and the manual. SOLD Also have an extra Garmin GNS480 CF database card, P/N 138-0329-053NDB for sale - asking SOLD
  5. If anyone is interested in a Garmin GDL 69A (working perfectly when removed) please feel free to make an offer. This is the unit that does XM weather as well as audio and is compatible with Garmin flight displays (G500/600, G500/600/700TXi, G1000/G900X/G950) displays, the GTN and GNS series (both non-WAAS and WAAS), and the MX20/GMX200. This is not the newer SXM unit though so it is not compatible with the GI 275. Unit only, no rack or antenna.
  6. Since you have the GMX200 the mute function may be on there - the volume is selectable on the GMX200. https://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-00607-02_D.pdf p.36
  7. My GMX200 display is intermittently distorted. It was present during a flight yesterday but by the time I shut down 30 minutes later the resolution had returned to normal. I reseated the connections today and cycled on/off several times but the distortion remained. Temps here in the Washington state have dropped recently and I am wondering if this may be related. Anyone else see this? Also, it seems to resolve from the left side of the screen to the right.
  8. Good gravy, that's BEAUTIFUL Hank! Mine was owned by LASAR in the 80's and 90's. So there appear to be a few prototype mods that never went into production. It seems as if it was a combination "model" and also their shuttle plane as it went through 100 hours for two decades - presuming they used it to shuttle people and parts around the west coast. The panel is very functional as is - and I will be leaving things be for a while. At first, the GNS480 scared me off, but frankly I love it. Would I prefer a shiny new GTN? Sure...but it's loads better than the 430/530. It's a true FMS, the menus are intuitive and with Keith Thomassen's SUPER impressive guide (best $25 I've ever spent), it will serve me well. The STEC-30 w/ alt hold is linked via the GPSS module and will fly and manage a whole approach procedure. I think I'll be able to adapt to the GMX200 MFD vice depdning on my iPad - figuring that out now. The EDM 930 is SO nice. My only plans for now is a recover of the seats in leather (80's grandmaw couch style gotta go). Already have that all sussed out.
  9. Highly recommend that owners group list. I loved my GNS480 but I never had the GMX200, so don't know anything about those databases. Flew a few rentals that had that MFD, but I don't think I've ever seen one with an up-to-date database
  10. My Mooney has taken great care of me since our first flight about 18 months ago, but I’m starting to (seriously) consider an avionics upgrade. Nothing immediate, but maybe within the next year. The problem is, I keep going back and forth on what I’d like to do. I’m not looking for a complete panel rebuild, and I’d like to be no higher than $15k after install and trade in credits. I don’t need to upgrade anything but…you all know how it goes What I have: STEC-30 w/ GPSS, GNS430W, GMX200, FS210, GMA340, SL30, GTX327 w/GDL82, EDM700 w/FF What I want: Glass w/ redundancy. GI-275 stack / Aspen. Possibly an engine monitor upgrade? Another thought was to clean up the 430w/GMX200 combo to a GTN750… Take a look at my panel and give me some good ideas to consider, thanks! (I’m specifically reaching out to the vintage Mooney crew, but understand if this post gets moved to the avionics section)
  11. if trying to stay under 15k, i'd go with 2 gi-275s or 2 g5s. maybe add a fs210 to sync with the ipad you already have the gmx200 as a large display. 650/avidyne/750 isn't going to get you much more than the 430w. they are an upgrade but with 90% of the capability why spend the cash. if you have more budget, add a gtx-375 to replace your transponder. I'm thinking redundant gps, most of the capabilites of the 650/750/avidyne and really importantly the adsb-in
  12. Hey Fred - I May be in the minority by I have never liked the stratus solution. I have tried most of the ones below: ADSB solutions: Old scout - received perfectly fine for me, small form factor, works great plugged into a USB battery brick Gdl39/39 3D with AHRS (just picked one up with a battery for $300 and works like a champ)- you can use external antenna - you Can hard wire it into the ship all day and use the antenna connection for an external antenna. Gdl 39R (built to be remote mounted) same as above Navworx with external antenna (feeds your current panel mounted avionics AND portables- though out of business, you can find them for $300-800. If you already have an out solution, you can configure to receive only without issue. Can output to Wifi and USB as well as your 430 530 GTN mx20 gmx200 etc. The newer GDL52’s found on eBay for less than $1k Sentry Appareo 2i Appareo 1s Just about any stratus Ilevil Freeflight 978 Just about every solution above I’ve shared is under a grand, some as little as $150, and all but one use an external antenna if desired. Since a ya let like an IPad is the means of navigation, the device doesn’t need gps- and if you connect it to be powered by a USB battery, you don’t care if the ship power goes out… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Garmin Garmin ugh garmin. I still resent the ganes they played lobbying to make ADSB mandatory and then practically monopolizing the space. Worse, fanboys continue to give them millions because oh the stuff is so cool… I gave them thousands for a shiny 430, gmx200, gsn480, gdl69, gtx330 when it was all the rage. They rewarded me by discontinuing service for the 430 and 480 even though fiscally they had no reason to do so beyond profiteering with new product. While both 480 and 430 support ADSB just fine, they killed support . No thanks. When I buy an airplane, a tailbeacon does the trick. If I have time I will grab a navworx 113 from the shelf, or a free flight 978, a nice sl70, and pin up the harness- ADSB in displays just fine on a used MX20 from eBay for $200. A gtx 33es or 330es provides compliance just fine, so there’s that. Gtx327’s work well as control panels too for non garmin ADSB panel mounted solutions. I’ll save the gtx 345’s for my mooney or seneca - and even then I’ll try alternate solutions. Garmin can’t even keep up with production in their Chinese factories - try getting your hands on a 345 this minute. Nope, I’ll avoid shiny garmin like the plague. All you all can keep up with the joneses…a scout, stratus or else in my monster 12” iPad does fine if I must Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. That’s all great. As I said… Im not keeping up with the joneses. The gmx200 is already there. If it adds value I’ll use it otherwise I’ll pull it. I don’t feel like spending extra AMU’s for an oh so pretty larger screen. Others can afford shiny new acclaims and bravos. Me? My paid off K model will do just fine with its current coupled 430/gmx200, I May upgrade to the gtn but I refuse to buy into the Garmin forced bandwagon upgrade train if I can help it - the point of my post. I recently saw an avionics shop install a GTN650 for $14k without any substantial additional interfaces. What?? Just to install a radio? I’m not playing monopoly in aviation and would be content flying behind my gx50 and foreflight if that’s what I had. People often make aviation unnecessarily expensive. If more people can enjoy the reality of flying reasonably without having to shell out more AMU’s, I’m happy to help.
  15. Why not? of course you could … All I wanted was an HSI in my 172 lol …I still had the GX60 here. It went GNS480, SL30, etc.. if only Aspen or other solutions existed then I tore it up again and I’m in the middle of putting in a certified internal GPs Navworx/SL70 setup. why would I want a GTN650 with all the rest of the expense? I still get panel mounted ADSB in, moving plates, GPS approaches, and I didn’t hand over tens of thousands to the avionics shop. The KCS 55 really was a challenge. I appreciate ADSB, but between Garmin playing the S mode game then lobbying congress to mandate ADSB and not using mode s for ADSB to killing support on radios just seemed like premeditated highway robbery. Margin on Garmin boxes is insane. I refuse to give Garmin money if I can help it. Moreover, the amount of wires to install a G5 or even a GTN is ridiculously small and keeps getting simpler. Im about to change over my K model Mooney with a GMX200, GTN650, ADSB in/out, EDM900 etc. build the harness on the bench, wax cord it, test it, and in the plane it goes. I’d do an avidyne but I couldn’t pass up a deal on a 650. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Yikes. When I read how much you all pay for avionics installs, my heart is crushed. Y’all must have Veryon’s in your driveways…. I get that time is money and all. Garmin charges a ton of insane money because we feed the beast and pay it. Their margins are insane. I despise giving money to garmin as much as I dislike paying the IRS. I cut my teeth installing a KcS55a in my 172. Pain in the rump, but done. After that? A little MX20/GMX200 and a 430 was cake. Installing a 650 from a 430 isn’t that difficult - just takes a little time. A G5? Cake. Navcom’s and transponders? No big issue. Remote transponders and other things get tricky but ok. If I can save 25/30k by painting my own airplanes or 50/60k by pinning my own avionics under supervision, I’ll gladly spend my money on other things. A nice pair of magnified glasses, strippers and crimpers, wax cord, pins and a bright light, I’m golden…
  17. memory cards are fragile, removing them from GNS, (perhaps transporting them home), inserting into Card reader to program, is about the ONLY way they fail. Ever hear of one stop working while in the GNS? Very rare if ever. These are proprietary memory cards that where bleeding edge when they were designed and first produced. They don't benefit from the commercial mass production of modern compact cards available today. Sadly, by the time the new GNS navigators finished product certification and went into production, the newer more reliable memory cards where just coming out. But Garmin had to freeze their design before that. They did manage to double their memory size when they went to WAAS units - would of been nice if they could have switched to a modern memory card then, but they promised us only $1500 to upgrade to WAAS and held up to their promise (amazingly a number of owners that probably bought their units second hand didn't take advantage of the $1500 upgrade when they could, leaving future owners to pay double that). They've always been $200 to $250 each as far back as I can remember and good to hear that their price hasn't gone up with inflation. I suffered several failures over the years but every failure was corrected by a new card. Many owners, myself included, took to carrying a spare card because we didn't want to be on trip when the data expired and risk loosing the card during the update process. I have never heard of a new card not working. So I just can't buy the apparent belief that the card should not be failing when it does and it must be their software that's bricking the card. Of course Garmin get calls every month on these, their is huge number of them out them out there. Given how expensive they are, we all call to confirm with them before spending the couple hundred for a new one. The thing that has changed though is folks updating their terrain and obstruction data. Before the GTN came out, with all the different databases all we ever updated on the GNS's was the Nav data. I don't really get the point of updating obstruction data or terrain. Burnt earth terrain data doesn't change, although obstructions data does, most find the MAP display on the GNS to be lacking to use it for that purpose - I never used the map page. I had a better MFD display for that purpose (GMX200). One of the big benefits of the newer technology is the bluetooth database concierge (flight stream) service that allows database updates (except for massive terrain updates) without removing or touching the card. And of course the new cards are dirt cheap and more reliable.
  18. My MX20 died several months ago and I considered a total panel upgrade, but post election market drops made that impractical. I have obtained a yelow tagged GMX200 with traffic and chartview and am planning on having it installed in place of the MX20. Anyone out there familiar with the conversion and the approximate time/expense I should expect from the avionics shop? I considered making the Aspen conversion, but the installer wanted to make it a total panel upgrade and his wishlist got to be way too rich for my wallet (over 50 AMU for Aspens, new radio/gps, new panel, etc.). Maybe in a better economy, but for now, I'll just replace the MFD. Comments on the process and expense of the conversion? Thanks.
  19. See if @Marvin is cruising the neighborhood… His GMX200 is playing mind games with him…. Best regards, -a-
  20. There is plenty of GMX200 experience spread around MS… https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Gmx200&quick=1 Best regards, -a-
  21. There were a few GMX20 screens that didn’t do well over time…. Many upgraded to the GMX200 and they had limited life…. Along came the GTN750s… the need for the old failing, unsupported screens kind of got forgotten…. Some simply got replaced with a panel mounted portable Aera device… PP thoughts only, not an instrument guru… not much of a historian either… Best regards, -a-
  22. Apollo MX20 screen started to develop vertical lines of various colours after some years. Was a known issue. I eventually changed it out for a Garmin GMX200 that I've had for about 9 years. During the past couple of years it developed a small, barely noticeable silver triangular shape just under the top right corner that can only be seen when the unit is switched off. It does not appear to have worsened since first noticed. I know of another J owner who had a G500 screen totally fail on start up. It was not a warranty matter, but Garmin replaced it in quick time. I assume that was a separate internal issue resulting in the reboot rather than a stand-alone screen failure. Did you find out the cause?
  23. After having the Flight Stream 210, I could not go without it! So bluetooth flight planning is a must. I do love the 430W, the GMX200 is nice but I’m not overly in love with it The G5 stack has always been on my list of desires, but I keep finding myself in a loop looking at the Aspen, and then the GI-275.
  24. Interesting, thanks. In addition to the pictured, I have a SL30. So your thought is one of those is causing interference in the ~121 range? I'm scheduled to install a GTN750 in place of the GMX200 and 480 in a couple weeks, so I want to make sure I get this part fixed too. Thanks Andy!
  25. I've started getting this error on the GNS480 screen and a MSG alert on my GMX200 that shows this error. From what I can tell, it's completely infrequent/can't determine that anything's causing it other than maybe push to talk occasionally while I'm on the ground? Always seems to trigger when I push to talk, but not every time I push to talk. In the air it's pretty stable, only done it a couple of times - far less than on the ground. Any thoughts? As simple as the GDL90 is going bad?
