  1. God Bless You for your service to the family.
  2. Here's the article if anyone is interested. http://www.avweb.com/news/maint/184370-1.html
  3. I use a dial indicator like this one. I've used a straight edge many times as well. Mike B had a timing article and it somehow convinced me you never really know where TDC is without this method. Not sure it's any better but it works well.
  4. I was puzzled by this as well. My youngest son sails on container ships and he told me on the ships he's worked there is one large EPIRB and it's the Mates job to get it to the life boat if needed. In the life boats, there are smaller units but they are trained to manually activate them only when they see another ship. Maybe they are not 406? With 130 MPH winds and the ship rolling 15 degrees, it would seem unlikely they could even get in the life boats. His opinion was it was chaotic and everyone had their head down doing their job to keep the ship afloat. Sad day. Another note; the large ships he sails (over 1000 feet) only have one engine.
  5. Interesting-what is the ratio? No, I did not get new rockers. Tips look good but dressing them up may be a cheaper way to go. Thanks for you comments.
  6. Looks like they are all 73457 which is the third longest. -56 are .027 shorter and -55 are .054 shorter. Maybe it's as simple as measuring the cap thickness and ordering 8 push rods. thanks for the info.
  7. For the Mechanics in the group. Helping out with a top end on a Lycoming IO360 A1A wide deck and came across something different. The four cylinder assemblies are all new lycoming and all came with caps for both the intake and exhaust valve stems. Here's the rub, with these caps installed the rocker arms will not install. Without the caps the dry tappet clearance is within specs. The jugs that were removed did not have caps on the intake or exhaust but the overhaul manual shows caps on the exhaust. Our IA is checking with Lycoming on Monday but I thought I'd ping the group.
  8. Congrats! I fly a 70 F and love it. Let me know if I can help.
  9. I've used Wilkerson tires for years on many different aircraft without incident. Great product and a fine family run business!
  10. Was airspeed indicating normal. My F failed to retract during a pito static problem. Pressure switch thinks your still on the ground of the AS is low.
  11. Update- I was doing some PM and noticed my SkyTec was separating between the halves. (mine is an inline unit) Shipped it to SkyTec and got a call the same day they received it to notify me it was repaired. Since it was several years out of warranty I ask about the charges. Response-this never should have happenned, no charge. I gladly offered my FedEx number and a giant thanks. Something went wrong, the company acknowledge it and made things right. My kind of folks!

    Beautiful!!! Wow!
  13. Someone else using the same heater with semi rigid hose.
  14. Sorry, this pic didn't post previously.
  15. $18 at Wally World. Add a piece of dryer vent hose and stuff it in the cowl flap. Complete the system with a moving blanket ($10) and remote cell phone switch ($200). Total system with remote start and stop for under 250. Without remote- about 35 bucks. I purchased a vent hose with a louver on the end and it wedges perfectly between the handles on the face of the heater. (Remove the louvers ) I like this set up because I can set it away from the plane and mitigate the risk of fire. On the down side- not so good for traveling. Here is a pic I found via google of someone else using a similar set up. I I used flexible vent hose via the cowl flap. One of these works great in the baggage compartment. Get the little one. It's maybe 16" tall. I set mine very low and maintain 45-50 degrees or so. I've always worried about drying out my leather on the back of the seats over time with high heat. Not sure if this is a valid concern but 50 feels great when its in the 20s outside.
  16. Thanks for the info!

  19. I'll have to look but I'm guessing these jugs have 500+ hours on them. All LOP except the break-in. Never run over 375 for any length of time and I cruise the hottest at 350. 330-340 for the rest. Usually 2,4,and 1 are all within 5 degrees CHT and 3 runs plus 10 or 12. The #2 shows a wet bottom plug and requires a hot compression test to present good numbers. Burns/leaks a quart of Aeroshell 100W every 4.5 or so and the oil turns pretty quick. (it's always been this way since a top overhaul) I'd like to pull the #2 and remedy issue but she runs great.
  20. 25 dollar Chinese ebay camera. Yes, you can see both valves but there isn't much to see on the intake side. Useless for cyl. walls.
  21. Played around with my cheap dental camera today and thought I'd post the pics for expert review. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/album/14125-valve-pics/
