  1. $18 at Wally World. Add a piece of dryer vent hose and stuff it in the cowl flap. Complete the system with a moving blanket ($10) and remote cell phone switch ($200). Total system with remote start and stop for under 250. Without remote- about 35 bucks. I purchased a vent hose with a louver on the end and it wedges perfectly between the handles on the face of the heater. (Remove the louvers ) I like this set up because I can set it away from the plane and mitigate the risk of fire. On the down side- not so good for traveling. Here is a pic I found via google of someone else using a similar set up. I I used flexible vent hose via the cowl flap. One of these works great in the baggage compartment. Get the little one. It's maybe 16" tall. I set mine very low and maintain 45-50 degrees or so. I've always worried about drying out my leather on the back of the seats over time with high heat. Not sure if this is a valid concern but 50 feels great when its in the 20s outside.
  2. Thanks for the info!

  5. I'll have to look but I'm guessing these jugs have 500+ hours on them. All LOP except the break-in. Never run over 375 for any length of time and I cruise the hottest at 350. 330-340 for the rest. Usually 2,4,and 1 are all within 5 degrees CHT and 3 runs plus 10 or 12. The #2 shows a wet bottom plug and requires a hot compression test to present good numbers. Burns/leaks a quart of Aeroshell 100W every 4.5 or so and the oil turns pretty quick. (it's always been this way since a top overhaul) I'd like to pull the #2 and remedy issue but she runs great.
  6. 25 dollar Chinese ebay camera. Yes, you can see both valves but there isn't much to see on the intake side. Useless for cyl. walls.
  7. Played around with my cheap dental camera today and thought I'd post the pics for expert review. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/album/14125-valve-pics/
  8. Good Morning, Can't seem to find a specific answer using search so here goes. I have small, persistent leaks (seeps) from the elbows coming out of the rocker boxes to the drain lines. Seems to be coming from the threads going into the jugs. Is there specific sealant I can use during reassembly? Also, the rubber that connects the lines under the jugs- is it a standard hose? Thought I'd replace it while I had things apart.
  9. Current Regs require Second Class Medical, PPL and an FAA Certificate of Authorization with 5 nm of an airport for any UAS ops. Great idea pulling them into the fold.
  10. +1 for the mini. Wife has the full size and both are wonderful tools but with out a doubt the mini is my favorite for the AC.
  11. The Government will not solve this.. we need outreach. I've copy and pasted my previous post on this issue. Over half a million hobbyist drones flying----most responsibly. I'm more concerned about the buzzards. As pilots we are for the most part an independent, self regulating bunch of folks that in general is constantly complaining about the FAA and over regulation. Seems like we might think "Big Brother" is the go to solution for other people just not us. Hmmmmmm. I've said this before, why don't we advocate recruiting these pilots (wanna be or not) into the fold. Isn't it true through self regulation and education we have done more for aviation safety than government regulation. Almost weekly we chime in regarding some pilot who did something stupid. I never hear us advocating the FAA should write more regs. I think we understand Irresponsible people do not care about laws. Idiots flying drones in the approach path of your local airport are already breaking the law. More, redundant laws will not fix the problem. The fool operating his toy at the altitude that caused the incident under discussion is already liable. I agree this was a serious event. I just don't have any faith my government can protect me from a similar fate. I'd much rather invite the local drone club to the next pilot meeting of my choice. EAA, AOPA, Glider club......... Adding a half a million members to AOPA couldn't hurt? Full discloser- I own an unmanned systems company. Not hobbyist grade. See my previous post for details.

  13. Unmanned aircraft in that airspace is already against the law. Much like lasers, this is an education/enforcement issue.
  14. I use Bob's B-cool and run it off of my battery minder pig tail in the luggage compartment. On a really hot day I leave the sun shades up and turn it on via the key-chain remote while I pre-flight...pay for fuel...head call...... I is remarkable what a difference it makes. Without the sunshades it works pretty well with the cool air blowing on the back of my neck but when it is really hot I recommend the shades. Leaving the rear shades up at least during taxi also makes a huge difference. No buyers remorse here!
  15. Welcome to the club! 900+ hours without a training wheel prior to my Mooney and I still miss it!
  16. I bought a 170 years ago with a skytec on board. A few months later it began to drip oil. Of course the wife and I were scheduled to fly out several days later for a short vacation. I called skytec and they ask me to ship it to them. Fedex next day air delivered as promised and they had it right away. To my surprise they called promptly to let me know they were going to warranty the starter and ship it back next day air at their cost so I could make my trip. I immediately let them know I didn't' buy the starter from them. They told me it was a manufacturing flaw and they didn't care if I was the original purchaser. Shipped on Tuesday- they fixed it on Wednesday and shipped it same day- I had it back on the AC Thursday. We departed on schedule. Skytec customer for life!
  17. +1 for the accutrak II stec 30 combo. Sweet!
