  1. I just renewed my subscription for my GTN 750, 650, 795 and IPAD. IFR charts for Northeast US , navdata, safe taxi and obstacles US from Jepp for 1125.
  2. Welcome to the mooney community! You are posting some very pertinent questions. I will try to give you my ideas about what you are asking. Overall comment: to learn how to fly is a long and arduous fun process! But the plane you use to learn normally takes a lot of beating and abuse, simply linked to the fact that you are learning. In particular the landing chapter is the one where the plane suffers a lot. I at least waited until I had my license to move into the club of airplane owners... But that is a matter of opinion. 1. In a complex airplane you have more distractions (gear, prop etc) also normally you are faster, so it may make it harder to learn the fundamentals. You learn how to walk and then you learn how to run... 2. Given 1) I would keep it simple and go for a M20c. 3. I would go for a cheaper model and then upgrade My two cents to start the discussion. I am sure others will have different opinions... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. No flying for a week at least...
  4. Another option would be Final Cut for Apple.

  6. Oscar, why do you need to buy these cards? You should have gotten 4 of them with new units. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Somehow two got corrupted and stopped working Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Good question, somebody knows? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I need to buy two nava data cards for my GTN 650 and 750. Garmin tells me that I have to go through their dealer any other idea...
  9. I like it... although very expensive.
  10. Put me down with a deposit for my M20C 1970
  11. My set up is as follows: GTN 750 and GTN 650 with a GDL 88 and conext system which ties into my mini ipad on which I am running garmin pilot. I get weather, traffic and I thought that I was also tied into the ADS B out system. My flights could even be followed on Flightaware with the remark ADS - B... Was I wrong! I sent an email to the FAA to check how my ADS B system was working. In the email that I sent to: 9-awa-afs-300-adsb-avionicscheck@faa.gov http://www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/ I included tailnumber and equipment. They came back to me in less than 24 hours telling me that I did not exist... (in the ADS B world at least). I followed up with my avionics shop and it seems that the right N number had been programmed into my GDL 88, but not the right ICAO hex number (also in the GDL configuration page). The number listed in my FAA registration as ICAO seems to be the right one. I had it typed in the configuration box... Now lets see, I plan on flying this Sunday and hopefully everything will work well. In the meantime I got an email from another FAA contractor telling me that he would be ready to follow up on my situation if needed. I will report back once I have more news. Hope it helps.
  12. I use my I phone record the panel and outside views from the cockpit and I feed this into the video stream. I also have a camera inside on the center ceiling, but the footage is rather poor, you can not see the panel well and outside view is limited, in particular when there are two people flying. Oscar
  13. I know the issue has been discussed many times, but there are some operational aspects that are worth discussing. For example: what do you get with ADS B in? what do you get with ADS B out? Also, how do you know if your ADS is working well and if not what do you do? What equipment is out there, what has been our experience in using it, etc. On a personal basis I had my GDL 88 installed in my M20C. The other day I asked the FAA if they were able to track my plane and to my surprise the answer was no, they had no record. But, Flightaware did. So what is going on? Some issues to discuss...
  14. Yeah... 16 degrees Fahrenheit..not celsius is not exactly what I am used to...
  15. My new home base is Gaithersburg MD (KGAI)
  16. Boring...
  17. Yes, indeed when I saw the Halo I got concerned even with the temperature above cero. But I have to say that I am happy robe back and to start producing videos without volcanos and grass strips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well, here goes a video of my flight from KGAI Gaithersburg MD to Albany NY. Got some ice too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXwqCmHB8Xo
  19. Please let us know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Looks like a great solution. Do you keep it on all the time?
  21. What a Change! I was used to volcanos and wind...sometimes an earthquake...but now back to ice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks for your story. Sunday 3, I flew from KGAI to Albany to drop off my son at school. KGAI was VFR and Albany was forecasted VFR with ceilings around 3000 and good visibility. I had filed for 7000 and flew most of the route at that altitude temperature was around 1 C. However, Once we got close to Allentown things changed. A solid overcast with tops around 7,000 started to move in. I flew into the clouds and indeed ice formed up immediately. I asked higher went up to 8,000 and everything looked ok. Albany took me down through the clouds, temperatures went down too (temperature inversion!) and I leveled off at 3,000 with a nice load of clear ice... I was able to land without any problems and flew back under the overcast while being bounced around by turbulence. Lessons learned: be careful with go and no go decisions. Things may not evolve as expected and always keep an out... In my case it would have been a 180 and back to Lancaster.
  23. You did well. From your title I was expecting something REALLY BAD and this was great considering the winds...
  24. I've grown to like the 'wham!' in the seats s the gear comes up. The 'thunk' as they go down is also reassuring. Do the slower gears still do that? Note, too, that if you do a manual extension, the 40:1 takes twice as many turns. Standard gears take 52 turns of the crank; the 40:1 will take 100+ turns. I've done mine once for real. The wham is history. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I had to replace the gear from 20x1 to 40x1. Works great, however it is strange to have to wait longer for the gear to retract or extend. On the other hand it feels much smoother. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
