  1. Prior to getting bladders, my original caps were put on incorrectly quite often if I wasn't able to be there to do it myself. The new caps are actually one of my favorite things about the bladder system (not trying to spark a bladder war I promise). The worst offense had the caps on so crooked that no one could have thought it was correct. Took about 4 drains of water out of it the next morning. That was one of the last times someone else put them on lol. No other stories here other than always being fearful when it is being towed of course. -K
  2. I'd prefer the "A" and move the antennas if I was going to go through the process.
  3. super excited...definitely will need a few PC upgrades.
  4. Any chance someone knows what it would take to get an order through? Do we need a minimum of 10 people to sign up? I'm pretty sure I'd be up for this. -K
  5. Speed, Looks like you might be ok with panel space for now, but I went with the 750 so I could use a remote-mount transponder and audio panel. You could always do that down the road if you don't want to do that now. It's a great option and I love having it all integrated into the 750-I think you can do this on the 650 as well if you go that route. You might want to double check. Btw, I think the smaller screeen on the 650 would be perfectly fine for the remote xponder and audio panel if supported. I normally do use the g3x for the xponder anyway but it's equally easy on the 750. I upgraded from a Century IIB to the GFC500 so admittedly I had limited experience with autopilots, but the GFC is completely amazing. Good luck! -K
  6. The 1 time I've had an experience the call was answered quickly by someone who helped solve the issue we were having...1st call btw. Of course that was working with my avionics shop who not surprisingly does a lot of Garmin (and Aspen) work. I've also had the misfortune of calling into EI many times...supposedly a good company and the support guy was nice but they never could get all the bugs out of my solution (which wasn't even integrated into anything)-long story of replacing probes and devices rebooting inflight...no thanks. Went with Garmin EIS and very happy so far.
  7. yep...0.3" per my EI and now Garmin EIS...I'd definitely consider removing it when I paint next year (hopefully). -K
  8. Really sharp. Dynon really appears to be a nice option. Keep up the pireps!
  9. Looks great Rob! Congrats on the 3rd! -K
  10. Loved watching Bob keep everyone in line and following his updates. Only had the chance to meet him at MS 2018 (pretty sure that was the year). What a classy guy who has made the world better for so many people. Didn’t know him well but definitely missing him here. Rip and tailwinds our friend. Sorry fo your loss Sharon, daughters, family, and close friends.
  11. Count me as another in the next 30 days...
  12. The DA-50 is a pretty good looking bird. I'd love to be able to go turbo diesel by the time I put the next engine on 79H. If they could get it down to 10-15k premium I'd probably jump (plus a new prop I'm sure). -K
  13. yep...my wife purchased mine and they had to "expedite" and it was over $100 shipping...Amazon makes us all think that shipping items should cost $3.99 lol
  14. I flew with a 430W/155 and a Century IIB/Stec 30 altitude hold for 10+ years. Amazingly capable boxes given (IIRC) two of them are 40+ years old and the other is 20+ years. I did an avionics upgrade and choose to keep my 43OW. I agree with @gsxrpilot that there are a lot of options out there that don't break the bank. Keep searching and you'll find what you want!
  15. crazy I never would have known. RIP fellow aviator
  16. Yes it's a Guardian mount. There wasn't a lot of extra space but the avionics guy got it in no problem. I don't think he had to modify it but I'll ask next time I'm there. My charger cable is out the bottom. The 750/FS510 is awesome.
  17. I have the latest iPad mini in front of the copilot mounted in a Guardian panel mount (https://www.guardianavionics.com/ifdr-aircraft-instrument-panel-flush-mount-ipad-mini-package-with-power-supply) running Garmin pilot. I'm very happy with the solution.
  18. Precision Avionics installed them. They are such an improvement.
  19. I didn't have the height to put the autopilot on the center stack (where I originally intended)-so we ended putting it between the g3x and the center stack. I'll include a pic of one of my test flights. After many flights, I'm loving the location. Compared to my old Century IIB autopilot, I do a lot more knob pushing and really like that the autopilot is right at hand. I'm extremely pleased with the results and the overall capabilities of the g3x/gfc500. I think the pair could practically put the plane on runway if needed. (as far as being slightly left center, I thought it would be a big deal but I don't even notice it at all). Sorry not the best of pics but that's all I have right now.
  20. Love it! I'll definitely be checking out https://www.aviatorgear.com in the future! Doesn't seem like a bad price ($80) if that includes customizing it to our own birds. -KA
  21. This was an existing template that was already cut. We're using it as a starting point. I should have mentioned we've already decided to move the gear handles. I wouldn't mind moving the g3x over and up a bit, but I like having the autopilot close at hand. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the overall solution so I don't know how often I'll be pressing buttons on it (autopilot). My current AP is a century IIB with an STEC 30 altitude hold. I primarily use it in cruise.
  22. The shop is ordering them. Let me see what I can find.
  23. Working with a test-fit panel. Unfortunately we can't get the 750/430 and GFC500 in the center stack. Putting it to the left of the stack (and right of the G3x requires the G3x to be slightly left of center. I thought it would bug me but it seemed fine sitting in the plane. I tend to sit slightly left of center for some reason anyway so it's pretty much centered on where I sit. This pic also has sneak preview of my backlit switches. 4 of these are on B/O but they look amazing in another plane they recently finished.
  24. Answering a few questions/comments from earlier in the thread. -We are definitely flush mounting the G5 -I'm pretty sure we're going to move the whiskey compass from the vertical brace above the panel to the right side which is angled towards the pilot -We are "flattening" the left side of the panel to give more room for the g3x. I didn't get a pic of it but it looks like you could do it to both sides of the panel if you want. The Guardian ipad mount fits without changing the right side of the panel so we are good to go as is.
  25. Mine is still being installed but I'm seeing the same thing as Don.
