Mooney Fly-in this Saturday, Walnut Ridge Arkansas
moodychief replied to moodychief's topic in General Mooney Talk
TWinter, It looks like a lot of people already have plans for this weekend. It looks like the weather will be beautiful for flying. My wife and I are still going and arranging to meet other local pilots (non-Mooney) to meet us there. We are planning on a 11:00 am lunch if you want to meet up. If anyone else's plans change maybe they will show if they know other people are still going. -
Is anyone interested in a Mooney get together this Saturday at Walnut Ridge? We can eat at the Parachute Inn as they are open 11a-8p on Saturday. Also, there is a Wings of Honor Museum on the airfield open from 9a-5p according to the website. The Parachute Inn has a Southwest Airlines 737 fuselage where you can dine. If it looks like we will have a group, the owner requested I call with the approximate number of attendees so she can have enough staff and food. We can order off the menu but if we have 20 or more they will discuss a buffet type spread if we desire. Let me know as soon as possible (and number of people in your plane) and I will reserve the space for the group. The fuselage is limited to seating 60 but I don't think we have to worry about maxing out the space.

Over the weekend fellow Mooneyspacer, The-Sky-Captain, gave me a much-appreciated ride to pick up my airplane from its annual. During our flight we discussed Mooney fly-ins and was wondering how much interest there would be from Mooney owners to get together at various places in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Western Mississippi/Tennessee and Kansas. Not to take away from the VMG SC fly-ins in Texas as Bucko does a great job setting up those fly-in destinations. Sometimes those destinations are a little far for a day trip from other states. Please reply if you would be interested and let us know what state you live in or would like to see as a destination.

Mooneyspace saved my airplane. After reading several entries discussing the gear lock mechanism on the vintage Mooney's I decided to check mine. After looking at the worn areas on the old gear lock I wasn't going to take any chances. I noticed a little play in the Johnson bar when checking the gear down so I immediately ordered and had my mechanic install a new LASAR gear lock.

Fly frequent trips to destinations she has a desire to go to. I only do standard rate turns and wide patterns to keep her comfortable and at ease. One time Memphis Center instructed an immediate 90 degree turn for traffic avoidance. She got upset when I exceeded the standard rate turn because she had never see me "turn that sharp" before and it scared her. After 7 years of Mooney ownership, my wife now climbs aboard, plugs in the headset, whips out the NOOK and reads until we touch down. She doesn't like steep turns, legs over two hours, turbulence down low, punching through 9,000 feet of clouds. However, she is okay once we reach cruise altitude. I try to minimize the things she doesn't like so it is more enjoyable for her. She has become accustomed to this mode of travel and actually prefers it 99% of the time. We file IFR every flight and she doesn't like hard IFR conditions. Just last weekend she made me choke on my supper when she made the comment, "We ought to seriously think about going to Oshkosh this year!" It took a while but I think she is almost perfect!

I pulled my old switch and searched for the compatible replacement before ordering. I have a 63 C model. It may have a different setup.
-
Aircraft Spruce 11-03936. The one I received was labeled TYCO but the defective one was a Siemens. TYCO acquired Siemens in 2000.

I believe it is the same 5A switch as used for the fuel pump. I bought my replacement 5A switch for the fuel pump from Aircraft Spruce.

Introduction and Question re Fuel Tank Issues
moodychief replied to prflyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
C and E have standard 52 gallon tanks; F has 64 gallons. Any may have had capacity increased. The older C models have 48 gallon tanks. I've been told that once you go to bladders in your airplane you can't convert back to sealed tanks. I didn't want to sacrifice any load so I had my tanks resealed by Weep no More a few years ago. -
+1 for Ed. PM me. I have Ed's phone number. He owns a J model that he has owned since the 80's. He has over 38,000 hours in various aircraft.

Southwest Airlines lands at wrong Branson Airport

They had to shut down on the runway because the taxiways aren't built for an aircraft that large. The next day they took off in the opposite direction with a 9 knot headwind straight down the runway. -
213 k GS level at 13,000 in my 63C model one February a couple years ago. Was overtaking a fast moving front on way to Georgia that had dumped ice all over Arkansas. Received block clearance 11-13,000. Was level at 13,000 for 15 minutes going over the top of the clouds. Speed started to bleed off as I descended back to 11,000. This happened over Alabama. Front caught me on final after vectors for approach to Moultrie, GA with a torrential downpour. By the time we were finished with lunch 45 minutes later the front was off the Atlantic coast producing clear skies on our final leg to Savannah.

Southwest Airlines lands at wrong Branson Airport
moodychief replied to moodychief's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Last week an Allegiant flight from Florida to Springfield, MO landed and announced welcome to Springfield. One problem...they were at Tulsa!! After the fact, the company stated thy were diverted due to weather. I wonder why the front and back end crew didn't know they diverted since they both made Springfield announcements. This one didn't get as much attention since they landed at a bigger airport. -
Call NW Arkansas Avionics and ask for AL. They have always had quick turnarounds on everything I've sent them. This last year they replaced the readout on my KX-155.

Isn't an exhaust piper the plane that is behind you sucking your exhaust through the cabin vents?
