  1. Those figures are from last year's holiday season. See yesterday's USA Today. With that said, our Mooney's still compete with airline prices.
  2. Go to the link below and click on pilot information. http://destinjet.com/
  3. My picture didn't post. I may need help learning how to post a picture.
  4. See attached picture. It is the piece that connects to the tube that is welded to the air box.
  5. I have a 1963 Mooney and in great need for the piece that connects the scat tubing to the carb heat on the air box. Also would like inputs on sources for the Carb Air duct as mine was damaged by a muffler malfunction.
  6. You can't put a price tag on the memories you make with a Mooney!!!!
  7. The one I had made replaced my previous one that was getting hard to operate. I didn't realize how bad my old cable was until the first time I cycled my prop with the new cable. Smooooth as butter.
  8. Yes. I had a prop cable done last year.
  9. Have one made at McFarlane. Here is a copy of an email from the FSDO on owner produced parts. From: David.F.Hall@faa.gov [mailto:David.F.Hall@faa.gov] Sent: Friday, December 09, 2011 9:23 AM To: Charles Jones Subject: Owner Produced Part Charles: I have accomplished some additional research concerning your question about a replacement engine control cable for your Mooney: Yes you can have a part manufactured and classify it as an "owner produced part" as identified in FAR 21.9 (a)(5), which is attached. There is a process that must be followed and it is identified in Advisory Circular 20-62E which is attached. Its not very difficult or hard to comply with. (see Advisory Circular 20-62E, paragraph 4(n)) You stated to me during our conversation that you were aware of a manufacturing facility that produces similar cables for other makes of general aviation aircraft. I believe you will be well within regulatory compliance with the requirements for an "owner produced" part if you complied with the following list of actions: a) You are the legal owner of the aircraft. You remove the cable from your aircraft to be used as a sample to manufacturer a new cable. c) Provide the cable the cable manufacturer you referenced in our conversation as a sample for the manufacture of a new cable. (Providing the manufacturer of the cable to use as a sample would satisfy the owners participation responsibility of Advisory Circular 20-62E). d) Install the new cable in your aircraft by a person authorized to approve the aircraft for return to service after the installation. The maintenance log entry for the new cable should indicate that the cable installed is an owner produce part in accordance with FAR 21.9. We believe if you follow the above guidance, you will have complied with all of the FAA regulatory requirements to classify the new cable as an "owner produced part". Additionally having the cable manufactured by a manufacturer who is experienced in manufacturing similar cables for other type certificated aircraft will assure your aircraft is returned to service in a condition that is equal or better than its original condition (FAR 43.13) David F. 11. I would cation you about Gaston's. It is one way in and one way out. We spend 10-days every year at a resort downstream that isn't as commercialized. There has been a wrecked plane on the field every year we have been there. One year a 6 place Piper crashed on takeoff killing all aboard. My wife made me promise to never fly in there. If you decide to go there, be careful as there is a small depression about the middle of the runway that runs the full width. Hit it wrong on landing in a Mooney and you might have some issues.
  12. Petit Jean, AR (special camping area for pilots). Taxi to tie down and walk through the gate to your camping spot. Has hiking trails available. Quick 20 minute flight to Little Rock for dinner. Or just stay in Little Rock with lots of hiking, museums, River Market area for evening dinner, etc. Hot springs, AR. Branson, Mo. Shows, dining, amusement park, shopping, etc.
  13. I don't know what you are talking about since I fly early 60's technology. Can you fly those CPU things lean of peak to get more battery life and performance? Sent from my iPad
  14. When I first got NEXRAD I was flying from Missouri to Arkansas in August. There was a 80 mile wide yellow swath over my route. The weather briefing had sigmets for turbulence and heavy rain. While airborne at 9,000 I was going to see how bad it was. All the jets in the flight levels were deviating for turbulence and weather. At 9,000 I didn't receive a drop of rain and was actually one of the smoothest flights I have had. I did a quick turn and flew the same route with the same experience. I have since flown through areas of large yellow that is high cloud layer that appears to be heavy precip on ATC radar. I pay more attention to the concentrated areas of yellow and red returns surrounded by green as they are always indicators of extreme weather.
  15. If you place a headset on the dash you will have a similar deviation. One night I was flying IFR with my son to Georgia and was being vectored around thunderstorms. ATC called about my heading. I checked my compass and reset the DG. ATC came back and said I was off my heading by 90 degrees. I was getting ready to request no gyro vectors when i saw the headset on the dash backlit by a flash of lightning. My son had decided to recline his seat and go to sleep. I hadn't realized he took off his (black) headset and set it on the (black) dash. Chalk up another valuable lesson.
  16. When I renewed my Wing X this year they had a three year subscription for $169.99. Definitely has saved me lots of money on charts and maps.
  17. I have 3G iPad 2 and have only used the internal iPad GPS for all of my navigating without any problems. Never have had a need for an external GPS connection. I'm a visual learner and watching all of the Hilton You Tube tutorials really helped.
  18. I run 64g iPad 2 and never had any problems. After looking at your pictures above it looks like you are close to getting everything to download. If you get a timeout just hit download again and it will pick up where it left off. This may be an issue with your server. Mine does this sometimes as well. I read your comment on Don's thread about it working after using tapatalk. Have you tried turning everything off that is running in the background and then trying the download? I'm sure you know about the four finger swipe from the bottom of the screen toward the top of the screen to enable you to close out everything running in the background.
  19. Have you rebooted your iPad lately?
  20. Try turning off the AHRS, ADSB and synthetic vision. If you don't have the proper equipment it will gray the screen/map.
  21. You can also click on menu, click on route planning, then enter your route identifiers with a space between each identifier. Under weather, hit download and it will load the current winds for your route planning. You can then click on altitude to find the most favorable altitude to fly. Hit menu, hit moving map and your route is automatically loaded on the map screen under route. You don't need to load maps before every flight. There are subscription status bars at top that are color coded. Green is current, orange you are getting close to expiring and red is expired.
  22. Airports develop Minimum Standards to ensure everyone has equal opportunity to have an aviation related business at the airport. The insurances required also protect the airport's interests as they usually own the hangars the businesses lease. What this guy is doing is a "Through-the-fence" operation. Think of the airport like a mall. Businesses are investing money (rent, build-outs, etc) to establish their shop in the mall hoping the mall environment will attract the type and quantity of business to keep their business alive. Do you think the mall will let a person stand in front of Zales Jewelry store with watches up both arms, rings on every finger, and necklaces hanging on the inside of their coat with the "psssst.....hey buddy! Want a great deal on necklace?" If we don't protect and utilize our legitimate aviation businesses that play by the rules, and carry the insurances to protect everyone involved, we will lose some great talent and the aviation world dies a little bit more. This includes the airports these businesses reside as they use the rent monies to keep the airport alive. You can have a guy in a pickup install a $2,000 dollar roof on your house but can you find him when you need him for warranty work he said he guarantees? I'm done!
  23. Some of us have common names and don't have the luxury of a unique name not used by others. Those of us with common names, as well as those in the Govt witness protection program, need a unique alias to give us an identity not shared with the other Jones' and Smiths.
  24. We need to have name tags with our Mooneyspace alias on it so we know who we are meeting in person. I rode down with N555ED. I thought the catfish was the best I've had in years.
