  1. LASAR website is saying those are sold out, however you can call them and put your name on the waiting list. Not sure what is the wait time, though...
  2. I believe you do need a eddy current inspection as your S/n does not have a suffix "B". You should be able to find an Ad online and more details in it.
  3. I wouldn't know about Insight G4 but I have installed Surefly and already had EI CGR30 engine monitor. CGR RPM signal would come from Magneto P-leads but for Surefly, it needed inline resistor. I am not sure about the value but it was available online, from EI or Surefly... I didn't need Tach 2 board and was not aware of it at all. Good luck
  4. I don't have a K Service manual but you need to remove the first panel outboard of fuel tank Rib (just outboard of Fuel cap). SM pictures would help...
  5. I removed the switch and installed the kit a year ago during the wait for engine OH and I can tell you it's not as easy as sounds. Wires were short on my '67F and I am not sure if I could do it without removing the Pilot's side panel or instruments in the vicinity. I was installing G5 and had a new panel made so that was done anyway but I can't see being able to unscrew all the wire terminals at the back. Going under the panel would possibly allow cutting some harness ties and make wires longer but removing instrument panel was a way for me to go. YMMV. Good luck.
  6. Great! This is exactly my experience; after over 2.5h of flying above the airport, engine used less then quart of oil. It stopped burning any significant oil after 3rd -4th flight. Good luck.

  8. I am sorry to hear that as they were considered a top notch shop when I was looking a place to paint my plane. That was 15y ago, so things change. I hope you'll be happy with final product, albeit not with their service. Good luck.

  10. Yes! I installed Stan Protigal's STC in 2006, after one or two GE incandescent lights died with few hours on it. STC is really using 2x100W H3 Lightbulbs you buy in Autozone. I carry a spare one but after 15+ years, I never needed it. Every now and then I look at the Whelen LED replacements but the price of PAR 46 Prometheus bulb is just crazy. And I'd need two. I don't think Stan's STC is available anymore as I couldn't find a website few years ago... I get it, LED is the future.
  11. Clarence, Is this approval for McCauley only or they can do Hartzell spinners as well? Years ago, I had cracked Hartzell on my M20F (or was it Mooney?) and was told welding was not approved. But, IIRC, 2 cracks were allowed with standard stop drilling "repair". Eventually, I need to get replacement.
  12. LASAR maintains a waiting list for this part so perhaps you should talk to them. Year and half ago they had one available for me after a few weeks but I have no idea what the wait time is these days. It seems they are getting some new parts as I noticed Johnson bar down-lock being in stock as well as exhaust hanger springs... Good luck.
  13. Hank, of course it does. And it's second one for the year model which makes it special. For some reason, a lot of people find surprising that 68 model is built in a fall of 67 but all of the car manufacturers do that and no one blinks. My 67F (s/n 670091) was first time flown on 10/1/66...
  14. Oh, man I know that feeling. It happened to me years ago as well. We were to depart early for Vintage Mooney group fly-in at south lake Tahoe and I topped off the fuel and air it tires a night before. Next morning I found right MLG tire flat as valve got stuck. Not only that but caliper's valve was in contact with hangars floor, which put the pressure on, drained the break fluid and cracked one of the break pads! We missed the fly-in as no shop could take the plane and fix it within days (Crazy!). My plane has reversed (rotated?) calipers as per LASAR STC so that could contribute to the issue. I'm not really sure what would happened at landing with flat; would that get damage as well? I know of few people having flat and no such ice so I always wonder about that. Anyone know for sure?
  15. So, are your handles plastic like on a picture above? I'd be interested to see the picture of the setup. I have a 67F and, IIRC, handles are sheet metal with spacers at the end to hook your fingers when operating them... and are recessed below the armrest. I never used them so memory is fuzzy. See Item 33 in this manual: oh, almost forgot: according your s/n your plane is '68 but built in 67.
  16. Not me but definitely "aviation thing". AFIK, all Air Transport Category airplanes Maintenance Manuals specify to fill tires with dry nitrogen. I suspect it came to racing and Pep Boys from there...
  17. Paul. it says it has 5-7y TBO for CO sensor. Do you have any details on that, who can do that and how much? I have a 2 1/4" hole on my copilot panel I can fill in... Thanks

  19. Correct me if I am wrong but how would wingtip help? Damage is on outer wing skin that would need to be replaced. He needs a new one from Mooney with no holes as I doubt they would match from plane to plane... I wouldn't like a patch on the LE.
  20. My understanding is IO-360 A Series (and other 200HP angle valve Lycomings) can't be certified with 94 octane fuel, at least not being rated at full certified power. IO360 B engine is fuel injected 180HP parallel valve engine and no different then carburetor O360 in M20C, C172 and such... Octane number needed is not all about compression but also internal pressures, timing etc.
  21. I like the look of molded teflon hose but for my engine replacement, I went with standard fire sleeve hose with teflon tubing as per my IA recommendation. Mine were done by Herber in LA.
  22. I really don't understand your concern... You want the shop like Top Gun who's picky to do the pre-buy. They are really good. Years ago I was in your position; 14M was maintained by LASAR and I picked Top Gun to do the pre-buy. They did a great job with detailed report for all the minor and not so minor squawks. It helped that LASAR also sent me an old pre-buy they did 5 years before for the seller and I knew what to expect. If seller is truly adamant not to allow you to chose a reasonably close shop, I would walk away as he might hide something. On the other hand, you shouldn't really ask for a price reduction on number of small squawks that TG will have, after all that is a 50y old airplane. Just my 2 cents... Good luck.

  25. Couple of years ago I flew an IPC with a CFII buddy of mine, VFR and CAVU. After the runup, before I call the TWR he decided to "give me Clarence" so I can repeat it like on a real flight. Sure enough, I repeat the clearance while pressing the PTT (as always, right?) on a frequency. KPAE ground: Mooney 14M, you are transmitting on the ground" with the laughter at the background. OOOPS!
