  1. Moodychief...I gotta admit than when i read about "flashing"and repolarizing your generator ,I thought this is pure science fiction!!!As a matter of fact I still do...I have never heard of anybody "flashing" their generator/voltage regulator before...can you please explain this all again??Inquiring minds are curious..kpc
  2. This accident struck me very close to home, because It happened to me one night and resulted in repeated approaches far below my personal minimums. So I immediately thought "there by the grace of God go I...looking back I got myself into a jam with no alternative airport I could reach with dwindling fuel and by the shearest terror filled margin I lucked out to a normal landing. My sincere condolences to this family...kpc
  3. Well my deal got really strange at the end where the seller refused to pay for any air worthy items and at the end was very slow in sending in bill of sale. What I realized ,was he was suffering sellers remorse for accepting a lower asking price and was trying to bait me into walking away from deal...this all occurred while a/c was in escrow...somtimes you have to hangin there if you think you have found a keeper...Its been a year and I havent seen a better example than what i ended up with,,kpc
  4. I guess this topic (sorry squirrel if it got hijacked)is really about our common love for flight in a certain high performance low wing retractable and the importance of having a spouse/sig other that shares that love. After having read all the previous posts I cant help but think back on past relationships with both previous airplanes and women. Some lasted a long time and some didnt but I know the best for me have been the ones that there was a mutual passion.Kinda makes me think that the woman who I now live with and is at this moment installing Mexican approach plates in the 430/530/500 is really the one...kpc..Ps....I have that same print in my den...I love the blue sky behind the spit..k
  5. Like a frozen duck tired of winter, south to paso robles ,a couple days in Vegas for a concert gigg,Mulege/Alamos mexico for new years.....happy holidays everyone!!!!....kpc
  6. I think the quarter turn fastners used are Camlocks.....not dzus....available in stainless...kpc
  7. I know...my 2000 m20m looks the same...paint right over the rubber u channel...by the way i have a roll of this stuff in my hanger...I bought it when I restored a Pitts s1s....your paint scheme on your project looks great!!!..kpc
  8. Interesting...I see the auction has ended with zero bids...youd think someone would place a bid if not just for parts....a lot of salvage on this bird...avionics...nope...engine..a big maybe...prop..maybe...really a lot of cores but advertising it as airworthy...incredible!!!
  9. my tailposition is just a strobe flash unit..an a342 i believe...my tail position lights are on my wingtips...your combo unit is pretty expensive..I could look it up,its in the whelen catalog, and the newer globes cant fall out when you unscrew them cause they are bonded to the retainer ring with proseal..k
  10. oh I forgot to mention the door guard stuff is not as flexible and wont make that tight radius curve ...and it should be applied with 3m contact adhesive..kpc
  11. you could do that...but it is a standard aviation grade u channel availble through aircraft spruce (they have a european division in the uk I believe) and costs about a couple bucks a foot...this is a black neoprene material ,though the example in your picture has been painted...since your posted pics look like a job well done, why dont you stick with known avation venders??...my 2 cents..kpc
  12. update.....garmin g500 or aspen????...k
  13. oops...I cant type it is irs..on the pilots right yoke horn.....and does what I said...try putting on your headsets ,master avionics on,and than push the Da## button!!!!..LOL k
  14. Hope...while you are at it,you might as well replace your combo flash tube/position light....yours looks discolored like they do when they are wired backward...see whelens website/mechanics toolbox for additional info. They screw is a standard an part # 6/32 threads about an in long.It threads into a rivnut that can be stripped if over tightened and a real pain to drill out and replace.Screw is aso availible in stainless but not approved...kpc
  15. Well that is the answer to his problems...simply tell her that those pesky raccoons(squirrels..whatever )have been into the cessna 150 and you need to replace it with a mooney "4 seater"I am sure she will totally believe you....thank you very much..next problem please...kpc
  16. do you mean the irc button on the pilots yoke??.If so that is the internal recorder clearance ..push once for last atc transmission..kpc
  17. I feel bad you missed out on 2 lake amphibs!!!! I used to own one and it was the most fun you could have with your clothes on !!!! The rest of the story should be real interesting, good luck when she finds out about the mooney..kpc
  18. I have a buddy who is a burner...goes every year with a coleman tent trailer, bicycle etc...since the playa is old dry lake bottom and a catchment basin it is akylie and salt based...basically very corrosive to steel and especially alumunum...this powder than gets wet (like when you wash it off)and starts rusting/corroiding everything it touches...every part of the trailor/bike looks rusted...k
  19. Carusoam,....I think your Bob Marley (look alike)is very funny and so true...I have trouble believing it is gonna cost over 700 million for 600,000 copies...they state of california does millions of photo id/biometric/hologram anti forgery/magnetic encrypted licenses a year. The cost is about 20 million for equip/supplies.I guess considering this whole thing is congressionally madated and the aurthor of the original bill requiring biometrics in the first place has gone back to the Faa demanding why it has not been implemented since 2007 the faa is not too keen on the idea either.Anyway, for the give me freedom or give me death people...we dont really have a "right" to fly...it really is a privledge and I guess if I have to go downtown get another passport photo and submit for a photo ID...I am going to look at the bright side...or at least make lemonade out of this issue because i like to pick battles that really matter and I have a chance at winning.
  20. yes,but prob. the most practical advice for 60k investment
  21. I have a friend a few hangers down from me who went to Oshcosh and on the spur of the moment bought (with a few other airport bums) a restored nicely painted republic seabee. When I found out about i secretly growned cause I knew all the stories about how underpowered the 200hp franklin seabees were. This one had been in a crash and sunk in a Texas lake.Because the nose was completly bashed in,whoever raised and restored this relic made a lot of changes to the original hull.Gone was the bow door and the whole nose had a truncated look like it had nose job.The seller must have been scared to fly it west (as we will soon see why)so he pulled the wings off and put it on a flatbed trailer and drove wisconsin to sacramento. While the driver was stopped for the night in Utah, some body backed into the rudder .Oh oh..says the seller /driver I know where I can find another.(bad luck seems to follow this bird)Than after a lengthy 2/3 weeks to reassemble this wonder of the skys they finally roll her out and attempt to start it....rumble rumm..pow pow..oops something wrong with engine..rough running and not coming up to rpm.The franklin in this bird is weird...a single magneto and a automotive style distributor with coil and points....Anyway the four partners find a guy to work on this mess and announces shes ready to go.In anticipation of the maiden flight all 4 partners fly down to sheble avation for a quick seaplane rating. They all get an hour or two in a Lake amphib for some "hull" experience. Its september now and the clearlake splashin is coming up.One of the partners suggusts getting couch(thats me)to sort of ride along cause he got 600 hrs lake amphib/seabee experience. So off we go with my friend as pilot in command and me in right seat as sort of advisor.Takeoff on a warm day was pretty lethargic...basically this seabee climbed at 70,cruised at 70.and stalled at 70.No..that is not a misprint..performance was that marginal...I suggusted I make the first water landing at clearlake ,which I did ...she seemed to settle in ok so I lowered the gear and taxied up ramp to the splashin.Everybody was oohing and aahing the paint job and the seabee showed well. The takeoff though slow went ok and I suggusted we head over to Berryessa reservoir for some practice for my friend...I talked him through the splashdown and it went ok.Next one I suggusted he just splash and go...again splash down was normal and my friend reapplied full power...he must have been applying some rudder because i immediately felt a sideways skid developed...we were headed for a vicious 70 mph water loop.I couuld not correct it in time..as the seabee started to skidout all I could do was reach up pull off power (to lesson impact force)and pull back on yoke...normally this action would put a flying hull back into a plow, but not this shortened nose job seabee. She waterlooped at 70 mph and came to a complete stop in a fraction af a second. Some people think water is "soft"..but not at 70 mph.As she came completely round the right sponson tore completely off.I was launched still seatbelted to my seat and exited out the door that was violently torn open. For a moment I remember flying through the air...I think upon impact with the water I actually skipped across the water surface like a stone. When I resurfaced the seabee looked about 150 ft away with one wingdown(sponson gone)and the engine still running.I yelled to my friend ,still in the aircraft...to getout and climbup the upward wing.To his credit he did so with out any delay. The wingskins on a seabee are corrugated like the ford trimoter. This gave him just enough grip to inch up the wing and slowly right the downwing that was rapidly filling with water. As she came up water poured out the cockpit.I started to swim back and noticed something wrong.I was swimming with my ass up in the air for some reason. It was than I realized ..I was still belted into the stupid seat!!!I reached arround an unbuckled my seatbelt and the seat floated off.As I was swimming I passed a lot stuff in the water.A brown thing bobbing in front of me(my wallet)one dockside(I never found the other)and a stuff bag with the rest of my clothes for the flyin.Soon a boat showed up with some smartalicly teenagers who yelled out "hey mister...that was funny watching you fly through the air..can you do that again!!"there is more to this tale, but you get the idea...kp couch
