Thanks Mark! I’ll be adding a button to my yoke then! cheers, Dan

Skip, another great feature of the 450B, particularly if your doing a new install, is flightmate. This allows 4 customizable audible annunciations. My last Mooney had a Bitching Betty and I found it very useful, she was quite annoying and I can't imagine forgetting to putting the gear down with it in operation. I wanted a "Betty" in my current Mooney, now with the 450B I'll get something better. Bitching Deanna (my wife ). @Mscheuer quick question. If I wire a remote audio playback button does it behave exactly like pressing the COM rcv? Would I have to hold the remote audio playback button for 1 sec or would just a tap activate it? Cheers, Dan

I think the difference is only the physical appearance. It's my understanding when they run out of parts for the older ones they will discontinue those. Cheers, Dan

The 20% discount code for pilots is still in effect. It's good on any of the CO detectors and its a little better deal than the $20 off. Added bonus, the aircraft discount code allows us to see how many were purchased from the aviation community. It all started here on Mooneyspace when someone suggested we we try to get a group purchase to save a little cash. I contacted Sensorcon and told them that we had a group of maybe 20 that would like to purchase. But I didn't really want to order them all and try to distribute and collect payments. So they offered us a code. Well over 1,000 have used that code! 20% OFF: Aircraft2021 Cheers, Dan

It's like trying to draw a perfectly straight diagonal line on an etch a sketch. except harder! I use the JPI lean lop function for only one reason. It changes the %power algorithm for lop. The % power display isn't really any use but my OCD hates seeing it at 86% when I'm running LOP @ 9gph. After I settle into my LOP cruise I just hit the lean find button, select lop, and hit exit. Cheers, Dan

I haven't used a 345 but I have heard good things about it. I have lots of time with the 340, 347, and 1347 (G1000). The 340 is a great basic audio panel. The 347 and 1347 have terrible intercoms. I've never been happy with them. That fact that Garmin continued to use them in the G1000 line turned me off to Garmin audio. Pretty much everything from PS is good, and like @carusoamstates the customer service is second to none. I'm excited because my 450B will be showing up via UPS tomorrow, thanks to @Avionics Source Martin Pauly and SoCal Flying Monkey have good videos on YouTube showcasing the features of the 450B. Cheers, Dan

I did a similar speed run at 18K and was right around 196ktas, same power settings LB with intercooler and Merlyn. Being nearly 10K higher would give me about 20kts so we are very close to the same. cheers, Dan

The fuse is a good place to start. Attached is the schematic of your dimmer/annunciator box. I believe this design was used 69-76. Many of the early ones don't have Q3 and F2 but everything else is the same. Cheers, Dan 800275 REV R.pdf 800275 Connections.pdf -
I have been a Dawley customer for a long time too. I received a flyer a few months back announcing his retirement and the referral to aerospace welding. I just had AWM overhaul my entire 231 exhaust. I think the prices were fair(comparable to Dawley’s recent prices), craftsmanship appears good. Turn around time was fast, about 1/2 of the 8-9 days quoted. I’m happy with them. Well as happy as you can be when you drop 4amu on an exhaust OH. cheers, Dan

You can remove the clip mount in the back with the single screw. I mount mine on the panel with Velcro (with the clip removed). If you have any GoPro mounts laying around the clip can usually be coaxed into one. Sensorcon sent me a prototype mount and it is very much like a GoPro mount. cheers, Dan

My wife often justifies a bed time snack because she doesn’t want to wake up hungry in the middle of the night. I started intermittent fasting just over a year ago. Either one meal a day or 20/4. It’s been nothing but positive, I wish I figured this out years ago. cheers, Dan

With the exception of Eric’s pi post that may be the longest Mooneyspace post. But I didn’t notice its length until I scrolled up after reading, Wow Seth! I have had my share of ups and downs the past few years but these posts sure put everything in perspective. If there is anything I can ever do for you down the road. Anything, just reach out. Cheers, Dan Here is a bad cellphone photo of you, Mari, Alan, and Anthony departing the Summit. Ron Jarmon and I took the golf cart out and watched you guys depart.

Once you hit peak egt and leaner, HP is mostly a function of FF. With the 8.5:1 compression ratio in your J the magic formula is around 14.9hp per 1 gph. Example: 8.5gph would be about 63% power. 8.5*14.9/200 Most LOP settings with a IO-360 would be 0-15 LOP. 50 LOP would not be practical in most cases for the reason you mention. The Continental IO-520 usually runs well at 50 LOP, most Ovations are very happy there. Cheers, Dan

I can always count on Anthony to do my dirty work. Thanks! @FJC congratulations on the O! You are going to love it. Now order a CO detector cheers, Dan

I'm planing on doing this with my K. It might cost me a quarter of a knot at cruise, at most. Cheers, Dan

Thanks Jim! I didn't intend or want to be the "CO Guy", I sort of fell into it.. pun intended. The response from the aviation community has been fantastic. Particularly here on Mooneyspace, I thank all of you for that. We are making a difference, but there is still a ways to go. Worldwide there has been 14 aviation CO fatalities (that we know of) since my accident. Cheers, Dan

The basic one (inspector) has preset alarms and only flashes and beeps. The middle one (industrial) adds a vibration feature to the alarm. Helpful for CFI's that might wear them from plane to plane. The top of the line (industrial pro) adds the ability to have custom alarms. I personally don't mind the default of 35ppm, I have only had the alarm a handful of times on the ground. But I see the merit of @cnoe argument of not wanting to alarm passengers. I watch my ppm so closely now (imagine that), I wouldn't even need the alarm. It's my understanding that the only difference between the "classic" and "new" is aesthetic. When they run out of stock of the "classic" components they will be discontinued. You can replace the battery any time. I have had 3 units for over 3 years and I have not had to replace a battery yet. I carry replacement CR123a's just in case. After 2 years without calibration you should get a EOL message at start up. But the detector will function normally after a few moments. Albeit with less accuracy, but the sensitivity should be the same. Seeing changes is more important that the actual ppm reading. Link: www.sensorcon.com Cheers, Dan

Rat Socks, Mouse Boots or anything else you want to call them...
DanM20C replied to M20F-1968's topic in General Mooney Talk
I'm by no means an expert. But I like to see no or very very low readings. Most of us see 0-2ppm in cruise. If it's higher than that it's worth investigating as to why. Often time people find very serious problems with relatively low CO readings. CO monitors can be used as an early indicator of exhaust health not unlike what engine monitors do for the rest of the engine. I have had people report to me simple exhaust leaks all the way to a broken engine mount, found my their CO detectors. Keep an eye on them and listen to what they are saying. Folks like to quote OSHA numbers for exposure over an 8hr day. I don't believe that is conservative enough for aviation. CO in the airplane effects the health of the pilot as well as it's an indicator of the health of the airplane. Cheers, Dan -
Thanks for sharing this Vance. Good stuff. I also make my own checklists tailored to me and my airplane. And encourage my students to do so. I think it's also important to number the checklist items. When running the checklist saying the number out loud before the item helps to keep your place and not miss items. Cheers, Dan

I flew into Airventure with the Mooney Caravan in 2018. It was my first flight with the Caravan so I had not yet been assigned a call sign. Of the 70+ Mooneys on the ramp at MSN this little guy chose to lay under my plane. He was sound asleep when we arrived on Sunday to fly into OSH. After a few photos he ran off, toward the Air National Guard facility. So at the Caravan Banquet I was given the call sign "Groundhog" I wasn't thrilled with this name as I was hoping for something cooler, something more personal. About a week later it occurred to me that my little run in with CO was on Feb 2nd, Groundhog day. So "Groundhog" happens to be very fitting. Now Groundhog day has a new meaning for me. Today is the 4 year anniversary of becoming the luckiest guy alive. So happy "Groundhog" day everyone! Another interesting fact. The F16's that intercepted me during my little nap were from the Madison Air National Guard, the same place the groundhog ran off to. Cheers, Dan "Groundhog"

They are just plugs on the accessory case. Only purpose is to plug those holes. The oil screen is the horizontal plug facing the firewall on the pilot’s side just above these plugs. (Not pictured) It may not be leaking from those bottom plugs. An oil leak anywhere on the accessory case will run down, hang on and drip from those plugs. I get a drop there after a few hours. I occasionally reach up through the left cowl flap and dab it off. Next oil change I would replace those crush washers to eliminate that variable. But good chance it’s something higher up. cheers, Dan
