  1. If they are loose enough they can move around a little it may eventually wear the threads away
  2. I've been paying $35 hr for an IA to come to my hanger and work/inspect work. That includes avionics. I furnish all the tools, parts and lunch. No he doesn't have any insurance, but at that rate I don't expect him to. That's the going rate in this area for someone who comes to your hanger, one of the benefits to living close to an Army base that employees over 400 AP's and a AP school.
  3. Harbor freight has some new bore scopes now that have a .335 diameter camera on the end. The older one like I have has a much larger diameter. I think they still sell both.
  4. When I 1st got my plane it had massives and if I forgot to lean I would get a rough run up. Sometimes a high power lean runup would clear them, other times it required removing the plug. After replacing them with fine wire it has not happened again in 150hrs. At annual there wasn't anything to clean, they are already clean. I have 8 extra massive plugs and a spark plug cleaner if anyone is interested in a deal on them.
  5. Approach mode will switch over automatically, but the older king units have a way to do it manually also. Check the garmin manual.
  6. A lot of people in my area get them from Zephyrs.
  7. If it will manually roll the plane left and right most of it is working. Try changing CDI sensitivity to 1 or .3 miles on the gps. You will also want to keep the ailerons lubed and free so it can respond to small changes. The manual knob you mentioned also has to be in the center for it to track a nav source.
  8. My brother keeps his RV in Pensacola. I heard him say a few weeks ago that the FBO at the main airport had some space there and that the rates were negotiable. Ferguson is also a nice place that is based totally around general aviation, family owned and very friendly. No TSA to deal with either. They have both a grass and paved strip. Across the bay in Milton is a little cheaper. http://www.fergusonairport.com
  9. I've been using Engine RPM for a couple of years and found to always match my digital tach. I believe its $10.
  10. I have condors all the way around. They came from Spruce. Also if the tire is rubbing on the door the ecentic bushings may need to be rotated a notch or two and gear re rigged. The nose wheel shim will also move the wheel further up in the wheel well if it is needed.
  11. The cost of the spinner is probably going to be 1/2 the cost of the finished product. Perhaps someone like this guy can make a replica of the 201 spinner and include it into the stc? He is selling his non certified spinners for under $400 while the 201 spinner is close to $2000. Based on other post on here the last few months they may be a market for reasonably priced 201 spinners. http://www.cumminspinners.com/company-information.html
  12. Bayonets are the ones that go into the cylinder. If you get a secondary monitor 3 of the cylinders will have bayonets and the 4th will have a piggyback ring terminal sensor that mounts under the head of the factory sensor. With a primary unit all 4 can be bayonet and will all read correctly.
  13. Most of the IO 360's will run fine LOP without the GAMI. Many of the owners on here are installing primary monitors now. The price difference is not nearly as big as it was 2 years ago. Decide which one you want and wait till SunInFun to purchase it. You will normally save around $500 by purchasing it that week.
  14. What's the history of the other 3?
  15. Doesn't the 450 also have a USB charging port?
  16. The language of the actual bill has been posted now. https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1062/text?q={%22search%22%3A[%22hr1062%22]}
  17. Bob, The procedure is in the install manual. It will not display fuel until it has been done, but the points you choose are up to you. I chose empty, full and 1/4 tank increments. If I remember correctly empty and full are required points, and the other 3 can be chosen.
  18. I'm not sure about others, but jpi uses a 5 point user defined calibration that adjust for the inaccuries. You basically put a know amount of fuel in the tank and then tell it how much you put. Then repeat for the other 4 points. Yes fuel flow is still more accurate
  19. I paid $2895 last spring for the 900. After selling the original gauges the price difference between it and a 830 was less than $100. Otherwise you still have to keep the original gauges functional which may cost additional money over the next few years while the jpi has a 3 year warranty. You will also get fuel gauges that are reasonably accurate.
  20. The axc is PMA approved for most models. No 337 is needed.
  21. I have the 930 and like it. It fits the standard 3-1/8 round hole. You can save around $500 on these if purchased during Sun In Fun or Oshkosh.
  22. That's basically what the basic Brittain system does. Rolls the wings back level and keeps the pitch level if you have the pitch stability unit.
  23. How does anyone know that their newly overhauled engine from Lycoming isn't a prop strike engine? It's even possible that the parts from a prop strike engine might be spread out among several engines.
  24. We have a local physician who was tired of the regular rat race. He closed down his practice, moved to the beach and reopened in a small building. No office help, just him. He doesn't take any insurance or credit cards, Cash Only. For $80 cash you get a reserved 30 time slot of his day. If he treats you in 10 minutes and you want to talk airplanes the other 20 that's fine with him as he is a pilot also. You just have to be out by the end of your time slot so the next person can get in their time slot, no waiting. If you want a 3rd class medical he normally gives those at his house/hanger on the weekend.
  25. It probably happens more than most people would want to believe. There is "rumored" be a 40 year pilot and owner in my area who has been doing just that for the last 40 years. Once you have been around the airport longer than anyone else no one really questions it.
