I like Meguiars Gold Class. I've used Wash Wax All in a wet setting and found no appreciable difference. However, that may be because I have all my vehicles glass coated. BTW, with a glass coating, bugs just wipe right off; usually one swipe with a light spritz of water. William

A friend of mine owns that DC-3. He bought it from Ron Alexander. He also owns a T-6 on the field (KFFC). Jim offered to fly my girlfriend to Oshkosh this year in his DC3. Funny, he did not make the same offer to me.

I do a lot of work around detailing my plane and cars (calms my OCD tendencies, ha!). After paint correction, I did a compare between a very high end wax ($60+ per bottle) on the top of one wing and glass coating on the other. After a month or two, I flew in one night in heavy rain and compared the two wings. No difference noted. Where the glass coating wins in spades is durability. On the belly, the glass coating makes cleaning the nose gear doors and belly a breeze including that hard to get off and corrosive white exhaust residue. Any oil drips right off. Any small amount remaining can be wiped with a wet microfiber towel. The glass coating really holds up. However, if you don't know what your doing in the glass application process, you can really screw it up where it will be a huge amount of work to correct (not impossible, just a huge amount of work). Like many days buffing it off for a car. Can't imagine how long it would be for a plane to fix. Oh, and $750 to $1500 for a car is about right. I don't think I could find anyone reputable that would do a car for less than $1,000 here in Atlanta. William

Oh, and +1 on the Airstops. They also have a right angle stem. Thinking of it, I'm not sure what type of stem is on mine. But, assuredly, they are not long and bent like yours. William

Pretty confident Hawthorne at RYY has open space in their gang hangar. The rate isn't terrible for the area. I was talking to someone last week that mentioned there was hangar space available at Henry County (HMP). Although Henry County is not Atlanta, it's way south of the city, about 50 min-1 hour with no traffic from midtown. From midtown on a Friday afternoon, you can't get there from here. If interested in HMP and you strike out with the airport authority (or whomever rents hangars there) there, let me know. I might know someone who has an empty hangar for rent. You can try Air Harbour at Lawrenceville (LZU), they may have something. It's probably pretty tight, though. I think their rates are not too bad either. William

Paul, sorry. You're right, I should have been clearer. I really butchered my thought in the 2nd paragraph. The pump in question is the TCM Engine mechanical pump. Thanks for the direction on AA versus QAA. I will also make sure about compliance with the SB. I think it was done already, but will double check and correct if necessary. Best, William

At annual we discovered the fuel pump on my TSIO-360-MB is leaking from the shaft. I'm a little disappointed in myself that I may have missed this when completing my last oil change as staining was found. I understand this is common and obviously needs to be corrected. We were only able to find one place in OK that would overhaul said fuel pump for about $950. The promised turn around time was good. Other TSIO-360 owners, what has been your experience having the pump overhauled? Where did you have it done? What did it cost you? Any recommendations are appreciated. Note, this is a fuel pump on a Conti TSIO-360 engine. So, the pump is not a Weldon or Dukes like that used on the popular Lycoming 360s. Alternatively, we looked to buy an overhauled pump with no luck. Thanks in advance William

Greg-D, I'm sorry, that's the only place I've ever seen it. In fact, I'm not sure there is any other place or way to drive the low vacuum annunciator with that type of instrument setup. I'm guessing you have a King KI-525 as an HSI/DG, so it wouldn't be there (that instrument is electric). Is it possible that pot is somehow hooked in line with the vacuum gauge? That would be really odd. William

Funny, this has been my on again off again project for some time. It's been fun and a good challenge to my excel modeling skills. I've completed the take-off performance calcs and have moved on to landing distances. I looked at the Oviation one provided and it was very good and probably could be deconstructed and manipulated. Of course, I like mine better. I probably shouldn't even provide this given it's a work in progress and not ready for prime time, but here goes. Unfortunately, between deal flow at work, flying part time and moving to a new home and moving the airplane, this has fallen to the bottom of my list since last May. It's been fun creating the calculations as the slopes are increasing or decreasing as the case may be based on temp. wind etc. The upside is that the slopes in the chart do seem to be linear. Of course, there are the usual stipulations, your POH is the governing document and should always be consulted, blah, blah, blah. I do find it ridiculous that you could be a pencil lead width off and that's 50 ft. But, I guess that goes under the heading of measuring with a micrometer and cutting with an axe. Ha, Jonah Hill. I've heard a couple of Premier sales people advocate trim up to flare. SMH. Also watched a new Acclaim owner use that technique at a Premier sale guys recommendation and then tried to go around. Suddenly becomes more than a hand full. Oh, and odd they didn't talk about range extending by running lean of peak. Pulling the MP and RPM back and still running rich seems less than optimally efficient. -
I have a M20K with a JPI 700. The short answer to your question is yes. I assume your M20K is typically equipped with a Hoskins FT101 or something better. There's your fuel flow. Does it integrate with your JPI? Highly unlikely, but that's not the end of the world. I also assume that the JPI 700 has all the cht/egt/tit probes installed and working. If so, these are the basics to stay out of the "red box" and determine how rich or lean of peak you are. FYI, I looked into putting in a JPI 900. JPI would not sell me a JPI 900 without cht/egt/tit probes even though I already have them. Something about STC and agreement with the FAA that new probes would be used when using a 900 to replace the OEM gauges (forget the fact that the OEM setup had only 1 cht and a tit gauge). William

Greg_D, I'm guessing you have the King KI-256 artificial horizon and flight director. It's likely that the gauge is correct (although you can easily hook up another to check it) and the vacuum switch on the back of the artificial horizon that signals the annun. needs to be adjusted. Sometime vibration over time knocks these out of adjustment. On the back of the artificial horizon there is an approx. 1" long by 1" diameter pot with 3 wires. The adjustment screw is in the middle of the back of the pot. A very small turn does a lot. BTW, I've found it to be a huge pain the mess with it. To the OP, in the M20M's, R's, S's, J's, K's (including my own) all also having a Ki-256 artificial horizon, the low vacuum light comes on (flashing indicating low) at very low power just as jaylw314 noted. This also corresponds with the very low reading on the gauge (if so equipped). If the light did not come on, I would be concerned it wouldn't illuminate if the pump were putting such a low suction as to not properly spin the gyro. Anybody have a phone number for Allentown Approach? Specifically 124.45? Hoping someone here can help. I used to know where to find a listing of approach control phone numbers, but I apparently killed that brain cell. I should have asked for it when talking with them, but my hands were a bit full single pilot IFR, trying to get my routing straightened out and avoiding severe weather just to the south and west. Last year I was very frank with Mooney's presentation (weak). This year, I will do the same. The aircraft presentation was very well done. One of Fred's sales guys told me the truck/stage, etc was cheaper than the tent. Unbelievable. The drinks, food, etc were first class. I just wish they actually had some products from their "accessories" website. My girlfriend saw a shirt on the website she really liked. Instead, she ended up with a Cirrus shirt instead as her impulse buy. Remember, market the lifestyle, not just the plane. I think they did that well. I would say, without bias, Mooney's/Premiere's display was the best of any of the single engine pistons. Fred was also very good (as he always is) talking with me about upgrading. It's a tougher financial premise for me than others given I don't have a revenue generating business to take advantage of bonus depr. No one at Beech approached me despite me looking over the plane closely as I'm interested in a 6 seat plane. Sure do miss the large homebuilt crowd of the late eighties. Always enjoyed that in middle school and high school. Now it's a shadow of the past. I too have had overzealous volunteers block me from certain display areas in the recent past. The price..meh. I guess my threshold of financial pain is higher than others. Looks like there's an option to volunteer to get around that. Nice, option. Sure wish I found the alt chamber. Wanted to do that. Just too many distractions. William
