  1. Mike - truly unnerving for something like that to happen, and great job in seeing it and reacting without hesitation. I'd wait to get the cylinder apart before passing judgment though - the field mechanic scoping It and saying it was clearly gone just lets you know that it failed, not the reason for the failure. If it were improper installation that would be one thing, if it were a material failure that's another. Not defending anyone, but clearly a forum is a precarious place to post what could possibly be unfounded accusations. my 2 cents.
  2. Awesome Job and even better attitude! Your interview was great. Looks like the gear collapsed at the end - hope you get up soon.
  3. For the first three I'd be looking for a loose panel ground - the isolators typically have a jumper that goes from the panel to the ship's framing. Very possible the ground lug for the radio is tied to the panels as well.
  4. wow for a second there I thought your ballistic chute deployed
  5. 67. Guess I'm slow. I've got a larger tube off the engine ends just back of the right rear cylinder. Then a much thinner tube that connects and goes to the gauge. Where is the hole? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I can do that downhill too. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. A collapsing fuel hose?? I've seen rubber collapse inside hoses before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Timely. My large tube broke in half at the adel clamp. I didn't see any weep hole on inspection have to take a closer look Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Went up for my BFR over the weekend, and thought I'd jump in with my experience with MCA flight and stalls. In a couple words - nothing to fear. Yes when the plane stalled it did have a tendency to fall off either right or left - unlike a 172 Gave plenty of warning with a definite buffeting - unlike a 172 Keeping it flying straight at the ragged edge of MCA took aggressive rudder input and immediate counter input "dancing on the pedals" - don't be shy. When it stalled it took more than just relaxing back pressure - be decisive and deliberate in lowering the nose - your flying again in seconds. If you have any reservations, like I did, go high - the confidence is priceless, and even though they aren't part of the ride I did some lazy 8's - kinda fun.
  10. That records the GPS track you flew
  11. Well if nothing else I'll have a pirep to post! One other thing of note the plug change reduced my Peak EGT across the board by about 90 degrees. Kinda made me go hmmmm.
  12. Turn off the noise cancelling - better to hear the squeal!
  13. I made it to Oshkosh this year, the flight from Houston was great. While there I decided to get a show special on plugs. I've been meaning to change them out for a while, the champion guys gave me cold hard cash! (well ok only a buck per plug but hey) I changed out the plugs on field and thought it a good time to look, pull and push things about under the cowling. Probably would have made the trip home, but I found a section of the oil cooler hose that routes next to the muffler that had a singe on the covering. My thoughts turned immediately to "breaking the chain" if it did go best case is an off airport - worst case was a oil spray on a hot exhaust and potential fire - so I arranged to have a shop change out the hoses and add fire sleeve. I checked the removed hose afterwards, in general the hose was ready to be changed even without the singed cover. Glad I did it before an eight hour flight home, and I've added an under cowl poke around at 25 hours to my routine.
  14. Careful - one might be the ejection seat
  15. For all those who have been searching for a W&B app - it is now part of the foreflight offering, along with a gps track that will playback in google earth. When you set it up it asks for your N number - finds out what plane it is (along with the serial) and imports all the stations and limits applicable. The only thing you have to do is input your current EW and COG (EW*COG inches) Pretty cool - now I can delete the other app I used for W&B on my IPad. I haven't used the track logs yet but plan on it.
  16. Solid wood and cut / carve out the track profile?
  17. Except for that pesky little weight limitation placard for the baggage area Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Clarence is correct. I had the panel changed on my F. IIRC I had the AI recalibrated to 15 degrees Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Don't forget the speed of that Johnson bar!!! Clean and climbing 20 foot off the deck Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Big tip!!!! DONT USE THE OLD WINDOWS AS A PATTERN FOR HOLES. The only way to make sure things line right is a lot of in and out. Marking as you go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I figured about 120 an hour without a maintenance (engine) reserve.
  22. I've been avoiding wearing high heels all of my life......
  23. Don't see the photo but restrict your goggle search to Aerosonic 651035 saw some that were Beechcraft specific. and one that matched the suffix but was in as removed status
  24. 4,800 to go from a quart in two hours to a quart in ten. If the engine isn't pending failure I'd recalculate that roi. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Would pulling up after landing to fuel be an option??? Then when its time to park it would be a down hill coast, your wife would love that.
