  1. Arizona Aeropainting - Eloy Arizona Aircraft Painting- Mesa (Falcon field) two different shops, very similar names though
  2. I’ve had two mooney’s painted, now. My first by ArtCraft, second by Arizona Aircraft Painting at Falcon Field. Both were quality paint jobs. Both took longer than the estimate by a couple weeks. Both use impressive paint booths (I recommend you ask to tour their facilities and look at their work “on the line” prior to committing- it’s a pretty big monetary outlay). I went with a pretty generic Mooney scheme on my first (the tail swoosh, 3 swooshes around the wings, etc), but a non standard color (green and gold instead of red, black, gold, silver). The second paint scheme i went with is the m20V type paint scheme- but with blue, gold and black instead of red and silver. the main difference I’ve seen between those two shops is that ArtCraft was more keen on small “niceties.” While both shops did great work, replaced all the fasteners with stainless, kept the data plate paint free (per request)... ArtCraft gave me a T-shirt afterwards, and (more importantly) a couple small cans of paint in each color for touch ups if necessary (never used the paint- but it was a pretty nice gesture which I appreciated). Their log book stickers were neater/nicer as well. I guess they say it’s the little things, right? ive read a lot of great things about Hawk in Tampa on this board- I think if I was going to paint a third Mooney- I’d try them out. @jetdriven has an absolutely stunning example of what they can do.
  3. That looks like a fun little toy!
  4. Love it! Time to update your “states I’ve landed in” signature pic!
  5. Who’s septic tank has $10K cash it it?!?!??? Dammit man, give me the address, I’m on my way!
  6. I hate my ACCESS ear plugs... but mainly just because putting on the helmet with them in is uncomfortable. They are OK when they work- but I’ve had one or the other get plugged up which is annoying. And the way my helmet fits (tight), sometimes I hear really clearly through one ear plug, but poorly through the other. It wasn’t a big deal in the 18 or 15, because I ended up just wearing normal earplugs and cranking up the volume. But in the 35- the max volume is much lower- if I wear regular earplugs (foamies ) under the helmet, I can’t hear the radios, even at 100% volume. So it’s either don’t wear earplugs at all, or wear ACCES. First world problems... I know...
  7. Not necessarily to maintain level flight, though- and that’s where PTK is incorrect. All you have to do is try to increase your turn rate by increasing load factor. You can still be in a stable rate of descent, with the intention of continuing that rate of descent. All that’s required to increase the speed at which your airfoil will stall is setting an angle of bank. To actually stall, all you need to do is exceed the critical angle of attack. And here in lies the root of why an AoA indicator is far more valuable than an airspeed indicator in determining where that stall will occur. To put it in layman’s terms: if you bank the airplane, then increase the backstick (backyoke?) pull, your aircraft will stall at a higher airspeed than if you are wings parallel to the horizon (lift vector perpendicular to the horizon). Pulling to “maintain level flight”, while a potential cause for an accelerated stall, is one result, but not the sole reason. You can be in a descending turn, if you pull to increase your turn rate, and continue to reorient your lift vector for a rate of descent- you will stall at a higher airspeed than if you are wings level. Same goes for a climbing turn.
  8. Come on, man! Don’t steal our dreams....
  9. My ‘82 Missile (J) has that clip as well. My previous J, a 1980, did not. I think it was introduced sometime around then. It’s a nice feature, for sure.
  10. This is also true- but his argument, or at least the way I read it...is that in a descent, if you set an angle of bank, your stall speed is not faster than if you’re level. That is not true. The second you roll your wings, the airspeed for a given angle of attack increases in stable flight- regardless of whether one is in a climb, descent or level. the stall occurs at the critical AoA in both cases, but the airspeed at which an aircraft stalls will be higher in the case where an aircraft has an angle of bank, regardless of whether that aircraft is descending or level.
  11. This is not accurate. Stall speeds increase when bank angle increases at a higher rate than normal backstick pressure alone (all lift vector against weight+G). A pilot attempting to increase their turn rate by using elevator thus is increasing angle of attack quicker to a stalling AoA, hence “higher speed.” This effect doesn’t require level flight, just an angle of bank and an attempt to increase turn rate using elevator. Climbing, or descending... your stall “speed” increases with angle of bank (your wings stalling AoA, however, remains constant. ”holding level flight” is not a prerequisite for this condition.
  12. You sound like a Naval Aviator! I love it!
  13. ^This. I've always assumed that the other pilots that are flying around me have absolutely no situational awareness. That keeps me vigilant.
  14. Bank angles that meet the requirement for a parachute are not prudent in the pattern IMO (which is 60 degrees-that’s from FAR 91.307 (c)). My personal max is 45 degrees- if I can’t get it done with 45 degrees, then I’m going around... but I’ve also had extensive aerobatic training, and have flown fighter jets for 18 years... I recommend 30 degrees max for basic VFR pilots until they fully understand what they are doing to their aircraft. It is not necessarily true that pilots trying to maintain just level flight get themselves in trouble when they bank up the plane. Otherwise, why would we see so many issues with pilots wrapped up in final auger it in? the key whenever one is thinking about a stall is to remember that the stall is exclusively all about angle of attack on the airfoil. That is 100% determined by how much backstick is being commanded for a steady state power setting (thrust=drag, lift=G+Weight, level turn or not). The problem with adding a bunch of bank, then pulling for all you’re worth to decrease turn radius and increase turn rate isn’t the stall necessarily... it’s an uncoordinated stall into the turn (a skid)... which leads to a departure, and probably a spin. when descending, your stall speed does change, too, based on angle of bank. Just as it does when you’re climbing based on angle of bank. That’s a function of gods G. Don’t believe me? Try it out. Be careful though- the risks of a wrapped up turning descent aren’t just a spin... but also an over stress of the airframe and possible material failure.
  15. Unless the seller already has a couple buyers lined up- in which case he might not want it waste his time.
  16. Many possibilities here, ranging from innocent to nefarious in nature... anything ranging between -not good with tech -doesn’t own a scanner -doesn’t feel the need to -trying not to show something in the logs ive always been a big proponent of more information is better- but not all sellers can be bothered, I guess.
  17. The PFD’s come with a 10 hour “demo” of the ESV. So your synthetic vision was probably never unlocked for good... you just had the demo period running. Once you install the SV unlock, you’ll have it “for good.”
  18. Clearly my sarcasm/humor didn’t come through. That post was was meant to be a joke.
  19. Man... if I had a net worth of over 10 million, I don’t think I’d personally be carrying non-family member passengers very often, if at all... I’d just buy them airline tickets! Seems cheaper than extra insurance that might not cover me entirely! Oh... and I’d sell the mooney and buy a TBM!
  20. That is unfortunate- my dealing with for a new exhaust for my Missile was timely and on the quote. I wonder what’s going on over there.
  21. I’ll sell you some, but they come attached to a 175,000 Missile
  22. I agree with you- seems like double jeopardy to me. At the very least dirty...
