  1. Correct me if I am wrong , but since the horizontal stab is almost flat , doesnt it need a little deflection to create lift and (fly) , as if it is flat , it is basically a weathervane.....
  2. This Prop has been sold ,
  3. We have a LOT of dissimilar metals in our airplanes....Our spars have hundreds of steel huck bolts in the spars , steel cages , steel control horns....
  4. I have to disagree , I have never seen coke rot out an aluminum can before , But I do agree its not helping things either....
  5. Yea , the mooney guys arent familiar with the oil fill mod yet , they have been doing it on McCauleys for years ... And they usually bleed red fluid before overhaul time...
  6. The vibration is more than likely harmonic , which can not be balanced out dynamically , best not to operate in these ranges as the energy is being transmitted through the prop blades.... 4 Cyl lycomings have the highest incidence of prop tip failures, which is why they limit the rpms from certain ranges.... Counterbalanced engines have loose weights on the cranks that float on pins and change the dynamic properties when harmonics occur , without the counterweights the harmonic forces act on the prop blades....
  7. The one to buy is the Goodrich 497 system , these are about 5 to 6 K on the secondary market , and can play out on a Garmin or Avidyne display....The majority of the takeouts are from Crashed Cirrus aircraft.....The antenna goes on top of the fuse , and is but ugly ,
  8. The cage where all the tubes come together at the back of the cabin where it bolts to the wing is a big one..... The spar members inside the wheel wells , The splice plate at the bottom of the center of the wing that joins the two halves , The wheels , the stack tubes where the gear shock discs go over....If you have the old goodyear pucks (5 mains 4 nose ) they are rusting out from the inside...where steel horns attach to the tail control surfaces , anywhere the exhaust is close to the engine mount...... Florida is corrosion heaven , worse on the West coast , than the East Coast, as the wind blows from the west , It will blow salt air off of the Gulf onto your plane ,
  9. With the engine running off of the electric pump , and the fuel flow reading at or near correct , you could have eliminated everything downstream of the mechanical pump , and everything upstream of the electric pump....One thing I have learned on working on machinery , you ALWAYS work the basics first , no matter what the circumstances.....I have been down the road you travelled enough times before to know you start from square 1 ...... Ive been there and it sucks....
  10. I may have one on the C im parting out....Will look tomorrow...
  11. Agreed , but it shouldnt take 2 days to troubleshoot a fuel pump , you check the pressure , and volume , if they dont spec out you pull the pump.....
  12. Also who purchased the pump , if the installer purchased the pump and was given the opportunity to make a profit on it I say he should take responsibility for the bumbling.... But if the owner supplied the pump , I believe it is the owners responsibility ......I am in a repair buisness and I do not install owner supplied parts for two reasons.....1) If I dont make a profit on parts , I cant stay in buisness... 2) if there is a problem I have to eat it , therefore I do not install owner supplied parts........ The upside is that when I do have a rare failure of a new or rebuilt part , I buy enough volume of parts from my suppliers that they cater to me when there is a problem....
  13. What if they say , we would like to help , but if we were to reimburse you in this way , there would be no way we could stay in buisness.....we are tryly sorry for your inconvience........
  14. All autopilot STCs are by serial# not just STEC..... The DFC90 is supposed to Blow away the STEC 60 , if thats possible...
  15. The oil fill only works at overhaul.....also there is a high occurence of leaks ...... I replaced a McCauley with a hartzell , because of the oil leaking...
  16. Oh come on Smiles , a 38 mile trip to N40 does not need an HSI.....boo hoo....
  17. Actually when I am at sun and fun , JPI usually sells sensors half price at the shows , I will make them an offer that they cant refuse....
  18. Funny thing , the rudder in my basement from a c model , has a 6" trim tab on it..... My ruddervators have real anti servo trim tabs on them.....
  19. Any reason I cant use the UMA Hall type rpm sensor on my JPI , The UMA is 100.00 , the JPI is 300.00 by looking at it it is identical , with the exception of the connector.....Dont want to hear the legal B.S. just asking if anyone has done it and if it will work....http://www.umainstruments.com/pdf/Tach_SetupT1A9-X.t4g.pdf
  20. Food for thought , The pumps usually have a series of check valves , so that when the mech pump fails , the electric pump can "bypass" the mech pump.....I would check there .... Regards Alan...
  21. The new mounts are changing the position of the engine , changing the thrust angle of the prop.....The "fix" is...... You guessed it more nose down trim.....As far as the ball is concerned , exit the airplane , walk around to the tail , and bend the rudder trim tab to center the ball.......That was easy!!!
  22. M20A Held up nice considering its a wood wing , hard to believe that someone died in this one....
