  1. The chute does not work at pattern altitudes....
  2. Yes , but I am in the car buisness , and no car I know of has a carbon fiber frame , or monocoque , they are just the body work......The closest I have seen to true lightweight monocoque is bonded aluminum , and this must be repaired in lab like environments , and are very expensive to repair...
  3. Yea , all those buisness jets made of composites are just falling out of the sky , as far as expense , to replace a single wing skin on a mooney is about 10 K , and no there are not composite cars , simply because it is not a good task for composites , Cars can support the extra weight of structure where as Planes are functioning in a much smaller strenghth to weight envelope....Cirrus and Diamond are the aircraft of the future..... Remember these are the first generation of composites , Imagine what they will be in twenty or thirty years........
  4. A composite aircraft doesnt need a steel cage , for two reasons , it is of a monocouque design , and it is does not need reinforcement .....also the 201 has a 4 cylinder , and the Cirrus is a 6 cylinder , and the Cirrus is built to a higher certification...... I love my Mooney , but I have to tip my hat to the Cirrus....There is a reason Cirrus is in buisness , and Mooney is not....
  5. Sorry , I understood reciepts as logs , my bad..... I think 49 is a realistic starting point...
  6. Its amazing how some people will not accept new technology , Its stronger , lighter , easier to build with , also Even if you were the greatest pilot in the world , having the chute is just another tool to save your Bacon.....You cant float to the groung on arrogance alone!!!! Glad you survived this one unscathed , I have been lucky enough not to have tested my mettle against a broken ship....
  7. Tony , it looks like a very nice aircraft , and the panel just needs a gps , The problem as I see it is the Missing logs , Its a big one , I would not even know where to begin as far as putting a price on it.........The thing that sucks is that you cant fix missing logs ......What is your asking price, I am not a buyer , but just curious...
  8. Out of 44 Cirrus deployments , There were 3 not successful , One was in excess of 300 knots (#5) and the parachute separated from the air frame, (#11) because the altitude was too low , and (#44) on may 16 2013 was the only failure of a Cirrus chute WITHIN PARAMETERS and yes the pilot landed and survived..... Also (#11) spawned an AD to correct the problem....(#11) also landed and pilot survived... (#44 is believed to be a bad repack)
  9. You need to tell that one to the people who landed safely to the ground beneath that parachute.....and there have been many....I have never heard of a Cirrus parachute not deploying , must be urban legend,(prove me wrong if you dare) ....Even if poor decision making gets you into a situation where you need a chute, it still will save your life.....
  10. No , for multiple reasons , A cirrus is much less expensive to build , the labor involved in making a composite airframe is about a third of an Aluminum one....That in of itself leaves a lot more room for profit , I think that the only reason Beech and Cessna are producing singles is because they already have the infrastructure in place to produce turboprops and jets and the singles dont have to cover the real costs of running a production facility....Also if you think the Chinese bought Piper to make a profit , you are mistaken.... I believe they bought Piper to learn how to produce aircraft for civillian markets , When they enter the market , the whole game will change.......
  11. If you are going to quote numbers , They sold 112 in 2006 , 69 in 2007 , 70 in 2008 , 37 in 2009 , 22 in 2010 ,25 in 2011 , and 10 in 2012 , currently they are 690K ......Not to mention 230 + Barons in the same time period......The fact that they are solvent is and of itself pretty amazing......Considering the state of the market , and also they came out of bankruptcy this year .....
  12. The only thing that could possibly be damaged is a Vacuum pump (dry) and that is if its close to failure anyway..... I have seen these engines pre ignite on attempted startup , and spin backwards two or three rotations, on many occasions ....It doesn't hurt anything....
  13. You also forgot to mention mention that a prop blade weighing 18 lbs , being spun at 2500 rpm probably weighs about 3 to 5 tons (x2) , against the prop hub..... The Docs reasoning is not because of damaging the prop , but for safety......
  14. The newest Acclaim is 6 years old, and I don't think they are pulling 400K , A new Beech is 600 K and people are still buying them......
  15. It will sell for less in two years....Planes no longer appreciate....They Depreciate.....and even if you could get 70 K in two years , the ownership costs would get about 110% of that , 4K for two years of insurance , 4K for 2 annuals , 2K for tie down , Depreciation , cost if anything breaks , (and it will) cost of diminished value due to increased time on engine and airframe , Capital costs due to inflation , ... Its a losing proposition , ...... Best to fall in love with the plane again , and enjoy your depreciating asset.....
  16. Get real , It has a IFR certified GPS , and one of the best autopilots out there ....And I hate to break it to you but KX170Bs although not pretty are probably the most dependable radios ever made......If you cant fly it the way it is , perhaps you should take up needlepoint or stamp collecting...
  17. 1) evaluate the Market , 2) search the comps 3) make your price your absolute price of Exit.... If you won't sell for less than 70K than list it for 70K....It will not sell for 70K unless something changes in GA , If you could live selling it for 59K there is a decent chance it will sell relatively quick.......The big problem here is that you are asking a bunch of people the value of something that they have an emotional attachment to...... And don't use my numbers as they are just examples...... Your goal is to get a 180...... The market is very weak right now... It is foolish to spend money on equipping it , if you are going to sell it...you are better off selling it for 10K less , than spending 20K to sell it for 5 to 10 K more....And PS there is no way you are going to get a 430 in the panel for less than 12 to13 K assuming you can even get the 430 for 8K ... Its a 3 to 4 K install....
  18. What this sound is is the fuel in the spider , and lines boiling and spewing out of the injectors into the intake ports......It is normal , and is why hot starts are easily flooded... Next question please.....
  19. Does anyone have a yoke trimmer that is good , Call Alan 856 419 5209...
  20. I think my ailerons are different....Although they would work , I don't think they are correct for the F
  21. Had fun guys.....Would have been better if Smiles showed up!!!
  22. Just want to verify , this is for all the seats including rear....
  23. If only your Mooney had a potty...... You could do both at the same time!!!
  24. Scott , you are for sure an optimist......As far as the winds go , I smell something , I don't think its "change"
  25. The interest doesn't fade , but the expense dictates the market....when LSA and the Diamond DA20 types get a decent foothold in the fleet , you will see a shift to this type of aircraft.....and GA will press on.....I personally love the fact that the planes lost 50% of their Value....I got into a S35 Bonanza two years ago for about 43K , 8 years ago the price of admission was about 100K for that aircraft....As far as my Mooney , I will sell it for 20K less than I would have had to pay 8 years ago , and still hold a decent profit..... Like every facet of life , change is imminent , and time presses on.....
