  1. Then you can get a Cirrus Jet. It will have the G3000 with autoland option. And, the parachute.
  2. The G3000 M600 SLS with HALO is looking like a nice step up with the new stability, autoland and automatic descent features. Several of the MMOPA group have already been shown the M600 SLS starting last August. Their demo rides include a full stop, full autoland arrival. Said one, “Sure makes the Cirrus parachute look silly.”
  3. Intra-State. As in within the same state.
  4. Ah, true. Intra-state the dealer/reseller collects it from the purchaser.
  5. I purchased a turboprop in 2012 while a resident of California. The FTB then permitted either a 6 or 12 month test period to document a business use exemption. It was a major documentation effort but ultimately we passed the hurdle and after 18 months received the letter from the FTB accepting our exemption claim. To pass the threshold over 50% of the flight hours in the test period must be for business and must be interstate. The FTB seemed fine to deal with. They were just administrators of the state tax collection. You do have to plan ahead if you wish to utilize the exemption. The use of a tax advisor service is an option, tho I read the requirements and did all the steps myself. It probably took me 50 hours of work to complete the process. California Sales Tax is collected from the buyer.
  6. Update: We removed the GTX33ES from the rack, added the second BNC connector to the existing rear rack bracket and slid in the GTX33DES. The existing wire harness needed nothing changed. The top antenna was simple to add. Perhaps the hardest part was getting the configuration loaded but screenshots of the prior settings helped greatly. There are diversity versions of most of the Garmin Mode S transponder models. The only external difference is that second antenna connector.
  7. After 30+ years flying I’m working towards my initial CFI. Passed the first written (FOI) yesterday. Who-eee. I’m already concerned re liability especially for primary students. This thread is not encouraging. On the one side are owners militant against adding a named CFI to their insurance. The other point of view apparently being that instructor liability is large and the insurance coverage expensive and full of gaps. Anyone care to chime in about the rewards of instruction and the relative risks incurred?
  8. The CFI wants to avoid subrogation.
  9. All the PA46 specialist CFII that I have trained with since 2011 have required they be added to my policy. That’s not a new trend.
  10. What is “hull non owned” coverage?
  11. Mine is on the rear avionics shelf, true.
  12. I prefer to keep my thumb on the paper chart for situational awareness. Just kidding.
  13. How about asking the FAA to assign you a new ICAO code? This reminds me I need to de-configure the GTX33ES just pulled from my plane that I have for sale.
  14. True that if the GTN750 configuration is set to Jeppesen charts the Garmin charts won’t function. Also true that if you switch off the Jeppesen charts you can not turn that option on again unless you have the original SD “enablement” card to unlock that feature. One can put the GTN750 into configuration mode easily enough and switch off the Jeppesen chart mode.
  15. Lovely fall Day in the Mid-Atlantic region. Approaches, slow flight, steep turns. Nobody seemed to be out there flying this morning even though it was clear with 50 miles visibility.
  16. I thought so when I bought mine but it only lasted about 18 months in that role. So perhaps “Forever” has become a relative term.
  17. Works great! But not when wearing the Bose A20. So you use the “old” way by tapping in your code.
  18. If an Exocet hits your Mooney I doubt the Stainless Steel firewall will be of much help.
  19. I have the opposite problem -- my mechanic frequently asks me something along the lines of "I found XYZ is not right, do you want me to fix it? The part is $176 and it will take me an hour." I reply, "Thanks for finding XYZ but please quit asking and just do what you think needs to be done for small items like this." But then this is guy I know and respect, and we chat / text several times a week. Sorry the mechanic did something to surprise you. It sounds as if you'd have been happier if you had talked to the mechanic every day or two. Going without any feedback for a couple of weeks while someone you don't know works for you is likely asking for trouble. At least you have nice new plexiglass now.
  20. The PA46 fatal accident count and rate are down. The partial and total hull loss figures are up. Insurance premiums based on both liability and hull coverage are up some 10-20% this year compared to last. The hull portion is more, liability about the same.
  21. You have an M20C with an IO-360-A3B6D? A curious bird. The STC is in the plane’s logs? For Overhaul basic prices — Airpower is a good place to start looking. Around $41,000 if your core is good.
  22. Perhaps a PC-12. But not as thrifty.
  23. If this is a key factor for your comfort then no single piston airplane is likely to suit you.
  24. Didn’t see them at Oshkosh last year....heard they are working with Rearwin on a new plane....
