  1. Since the CG of the skis is right around the bindings... Don't let the bindings get past the bulkhead and the calculation is the same as if they were in the cargo bay??? Otherwise, if the bindings are kept under the hat rack, then Hat rack limit applies... Ya? Best regards, -a-
  2. From 280 to 310F, not so bad... If it were from 380 to 410F, not so good. Best regards, -a-
  3. Status lights sound like a good idea... Otherwise requesting status by cell phone works well. Best regards, -a-
  4. There is a similar question regarding props, as well. Best regards, -a-
  5. Run often, a Lycoming IO360 will go on for longer than 12 years. Sitting unused for years, an IO360 won't make it that far... Oxidized cams are a serious challenge for unused engines... It is pretty easy to tell what you are buying with a good PPI. It is pretty easy to tell what you have by how you operate and maintain it. TC engines are susceptible to top overhauls based on hours and style of operation... Turbos that sit, are challenged by oil flow and early bearing wear... Seals, hoses and all things plastic/rubber tend to age... What do you have in mind? Are you asking about you particular engine? How often do you fly your plane? This is an opinion piece based on reading MooneySpace... Best regards, -a-
  6. We're going to need to invest in some O2 systems Jim. Best regards, -a-
  7. That must be improper, posting naked photos of one's GF! -a-
  8. Hank, I just replaced a few at annual time. They have a tendency of going missing every now and then. Best regards, -a-
  9. If it doesn't effect safety, what does it effect? What are they there for? Best regards, -a-
  10. Mitch, That spinner makes you look taller and thinner than you are in real life! That's got to cost extra. Best regards, -a-
  11. Can you rent some time prior to buying in? If you were to purchase a block of time, say 10 hours at $200/ hr or so, dry. This would give you a good fealing of the airplane and cover the costs of the use of the plane... The old partners will get a feeling for you as well. If it doesn't work well, you can go in your own direction, no harm, no foul... Make sure your insurance is in proper condition. Best regards, -a-
  12. It was a beautiful day Oscar. How long is your runway? Best regards, -a-
  13. Wing tips got aero finished somewhere along the way??? Is there a MGTOW change as the Js have from older to newer??? Thinking out loud, not expert advice by any means... Best regards, -a-
  14. Same or similar issue with IO550. 2700 rpm is great for getting off the ground, but fuel flow is quite high, sound level is also increased. Overall, it is a great option to have. Best regards, -a-
  15. At least somebody is getting a nice piece of hardware... -a-
  16. I have used the CloudAhoy app with internal and external Gps. The plot of the flight indicates a horizontal shift over the runway that is a clear inaccuracy. The external GPS Source seams to be a much better match. But what does accuracy have to do with legal... Yes it is legal to have my iPad on board. No it is not legal for primary nav. It used to be illegal to have outdated charts on board... Best regards, -a-
  17. Buy that guy a good lunch! Best regards, -a-
  18. There are several examples. It may take some searching... They also give the paint type and why it works so well and how to prep or fix the surface... Best regards, -a-
  19. José, I'm using AOPA' s FlyQ, but I don't know if it works at altitude...Free to all members I believe. Best regards, -a-
  20. Bennett, You can abide by the red box theory.... It pretty much ends at 8,000'. (from memory?) So at 11 - 12,000' it is challenging to go 100F LOP even with a well balanced IO550. With the JPI indicating that all cylinders are properly LOP, it should be comfortable. My guess is that when the mechanics went to school, their instrumentation wasn't nearly as good as yours! One day we will all have ICP and piston temp probes... Running turbo engines LOP during climb... ( just a prediction....) Best regards, -a-
  21. Along with Scott from KS, My '94 O1 recommends climbing using target EGT, indicated by a blue box on the EGT gauge. Climbing at high power over a short time is done comfortably this way. The blue box is a range of about 100-200 deg ROP... Followed by LOP afterwards... Best regards, -a-
  22. I think 4G could be rolling out with wide coverage including some decent altitudes... Best regards, -a-
  23. Hank, Reminds me of guys around the shop transferring pellets from drums to feed hoppers on the IM machines in winter. The static build up / discharge from air flow is incredibly painful if not grounded properly. Have you had this experience? Comparing the size of a Mooney to a 55gal drum, the charge could be heart stoppingly giant. I would think that the leather yoke wraps make good sense for personal protection. My '94 O1 has a full set of factory supplied static wicks. VOR, ILS, ADF and GPS were delivered with the plane. Cold / dry air would be strongest at building and not dissipating the static charge. Flying through snow must add an entirely new level of static on top... My thinking out loud... -a-
  24. I hate when good instrumentation and logic trump OWTs. Next thing you know, we will all be climbing efficiently at Vz, intentionally. Best regards, -a-
  25. I understand that a good break-in period requires high manifold pressure combined with good cooling, replete with high fuel flow. There are a few new IO550s ready for break-in on this board...And others turning 2700 rpm.... Best regards, -a-
