  1. I like the idea, but you should see the signoffs we see sometimes. Is that a salsa stain from the local Mexican restaurant on the sign off for PC-12 recurrent training?
  2. It's not illegal when the auto insurance company charges more. It's the insurance company's job to discriminate against just about everything. Loss history, age, certificates and ratings (or lack thereof), aircraft location. It's not like they want to turn away money if there is no valid reason for it...There are the [good] outlier pilots over 80. And there are the ones that are not. And few underwriters, who many times work for publicly traded companies, want to see their initials on the morning loss run next to a "risky" account they wrote.
  3. Sure thing. Yes, I am the CEO, chief pilot, chief organizer, IT pro, cleaning service, and most importantly: the lead robocall answerer at Airspeed Insurance.
  4. The 10 hours won't help the insurance scenario if it's not in a Bravo (or whichever model you decide to buy) - even if it was in the same model, it probably wouldn't help. They're going to want the CFI to have appropriate experience the specific model as well. Unless you're doing it for your own enjoyment and education, just get the transition training once you buy the plane.
  5. I was just talking to someone today about Mooneys and had a thought...I've flown a lot of Mooneys, but never the M20M. With the instrument rating we can probably get a decent quote. You're of the right mind to get as close to turbine performance as you can before upgrading. In this insurance market, fly that Bravo all you can...a turbine transition will be expensive. Unless you want a twin turbine, then you might need to be looking at Piper Senecas. Parker 214-295-5055 Parker@airspeedinsurance.com
  6. Jack is a good guy and came to me with his insurance problem. Not much I can do as the non-holding broker. It should be noted that he may be interested in a trade for a Piper Cherokee or similar fixed gear aircraft if anyone is looking
  7. Property taxes in Texas would be far above this. Nice job
  8. who owns the hangar? Municipality or are you renting from a private owner?
  9. Property taxes take out a huge margin, that's for sure. And municipalities can move at the glacial speeds.
  10. Before COVID, it was clear that flight schools were buying any trainer they could get their hands on. Someone who used to spend $40,000 on a C172 now had to pay $70,000. So for $70,000 or less they could get an airplane that's more usable for travel (M20C, F, etc.). So everyone went to Mooneys or similar. In addition, BasicMed has brought many pilots back into flying (myself included since I don't have to risk a denial). Post-COVID, I've heard of everything as to why people are getting into GA aircraft ownership: "The airline schedules are so messed up that my wife got tired of going backwards an hour to go forward 2 hours, so she said buy a Bonanza." "I always wanted to learn to fly and figured I might as well do it now while the world is locked down."
  11. When I purchased my M20K in 2011, it always seemed there were about 150 Mooneys for sale on Controller. I get there are more user friendly or free options for listing one's aircraft... For the most part of 2020, the number of Mooneys listed has hovered around 90. Today? 61 What a thin market...
  12. Some carriers will give a layup credit or allow a move to ground not in motion for 60 or 90 days without flying. You have to notify when it's going to ground and then notify when ready to fly. It would probably save around $100-150 per year for a typical F model...and you wouldn't have any flexibility for the few nice days when you want to jump in the plane and go.
  13. Didn't have much competition in the few years after your hail loss though
  14. If you weren't receiving premium reductions from about 2008 to 2018 then you must have had extenuating circumstances because that is not the norm for 90% of GA aircraft owners.
  15. Full power climb for any M20K
  16. I can tell you from personal experience having a couple recent Maxwell or SWTA annuals seems to make the selling process really easy if that’s on your radar. I’m sure I could say the same for AGL
  17. Yes, Yes, No. The CFI who signed off my complex endorsement died due to massive bird strike on approach to his grass runway at his house. a)2010/2011 timeframe...My friend's dad getting back into flying at age 80 after a long hiatus. I wasn't able to offer insurance. Avemco did. I'm afraid a Maule was too much for him getting started again. There are certain calls you never forget on the drive home from work... b)My friend's brother in-law-in a crop spraying accident. No. But would have been yes if you consider someone I'd chatted with on the phone for a decent amount of time from several years ago when I worked elsewhere.
  18. The funds could otherwise overhaul that high time engine...very little of what happened is covered on a homeowner's policy. Talk to you down the road!
  19. I was chasing this one, but I'm glad you won after our household plumbing incident . Congrats!
  20. Nice, fast airplane. With almost any pressurized piston aircraft, you have to make sure it fits you. The Aerostars are reported to be tight by many. I cannot fit in the front of a PA46 at only 5'11". Head has to tilt to the side even without a headset on... The Aerostars and the P210s are aging. I don't know if I'd want the hassle of a 40+ year old pressurized aircraft.
  21. Doubt it. They don't want to code all this stuff into their rating systems.
  22. Remember, that's just reinsurance... Very few risks hit reinsurance so it doesn't encompass the whole market
  23. I thought you may find this article interesting as it discusses some of the more “macro” trends that affect aviation insurance rates. This, of course, does *not* mean a 250% increase in general aviation rates. It does mean that margins at aviation carriers will be significantly reduced for 2021 unless rates go up again. https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2021/01/04/595857.htm
  24. That's the pricing I had in mind. Just depends on who you want to work with. You have to give it time for some of these carriers to respond...they don't all throw out a quote automatically.
  25. I've got username amnesia...did I quote this to you? Unless we are talking age 70+ or recent losses, the price sounds steep...but I'd need to look at the file....
