  1. 80% of Mooney was sold to new ownership.
  2. http://www.mooney.com
  3. I never do touch and goes in Mooneys with clients. Most of the reasoning has to do with the significant trim changes, but also with dialing in the intermediate flap setting. Add in a pilot who I may have not flown with before and the risk goes up more and more.
  4. This looks really warm for summer months...
  5. Electric is cool, eventually will be more reliable, etc.; but I can't imagine buying a Porsche that doesn't sound like a traditional race car
  6. I met some great people at AGL today. You Mooney owners on the east coast have a great service center with Lynn & the rest.
  7. Wow. If that is true...AGL is great and all but their preference in Donuts could use improvement.
  8. Late notice but I will be visiting Airspeed client AGL Aviation @ MRN tomorrow. Send me a PM if you can join for breakfast and I’ll add some to the headcount for what’ll probably be some Chick-Fil-A around 8:45-9:00am.
  9. Hi Paul, He could try Thrust Flight at ADS. They have a fleet of Sport Cruisers https://www.thrustflight.com/private-sport-pilot/
  10. Tampa, Lakeland, Naples/Ft. Myers, maybe Jacksonville. South Florida gets expensive. Maybe check out the Pilot Country airport. I've never been a big fan of the Panhandle, but there are worse places. It just doesn't feel like Florida until you get south of the panhandle.
  11. I was unaware until this post, but that would explain why Angel Flight no longer requires to be Additional Insured on the aircraft owner's policy. Now they just want to see proof of coverage.
  12. With strong pilot credentials we can get up to $2MM on a primary policy and then we would look for an excess policy on top of that. Getting an excess policy of $1--4MM on a piston is possible, depending on the pilot credentials. Most personal umbrella policies exclude aviation.
  13. I have never seen this many people buying airplanes in my life.
  14. And as someone who saw the daily loss run as an underwriter, new purchases seem more likely to have gear collapses. Make sure whoever rigs the Mooney gear does it by the book.
  15. Go to AGL
  16. Will have an email going out soon to get an idea of the shirt sizes our clients wear in the near future with a hopeful delivery date in mid-late August. Time to put my wife on the payroll, I guess
  17. One carrier I know will have to go to underwriting review for long body Mooneys where the pilot hasn’t flown at least 50 hours in fixed wing aircraft in the previous year.
  18. I’ve got a batch of Airspeed T-shirts about to be made. At least that will make up for $6 of your increase this year.
  19. Another anecdotal note...when I was an underwriter it seemed pilots flying less had more mechanical failures either from improper maintenance techniques or from deteriorating equipment.
  20. Up until a few months ago They have been the most competitive for almost every pre-J Mooney by 30-40% and given low rates to low time, non-instrument pilots. That’s changed now. Global is a good company with good claims service. We want them to be committed to piston GA and there is no way those low rates were sustainable. When I worked for a competitor underwriting company to them we would have to let so many accounts go due to not being able to get near the rates they offered.
  21. I have never seen an owner pilot penalized for flying too much. I have only seen high liability limits taken away for not flying enough and some underwriters even surcharge for lack of substantive recent flight time.
  22. Their metrics have clearly changed recently for Mooneys. But pilots with lots of make/model and RG time still seem to get the best rate with them about 40-50% of the time for pre-J Mooneys.
  23. Generally 750 or 1000 total time for piston singles. RG is 100-250. MM is 50-100.
  24. And it’s not all a surcharge for forgetting the gear...overall, Mooneys would still have more losses if they were fixed gear. A lot more prop strikes and runway over-runs than a typical C182
  25. Fly safe - stay OEI proficient. Frequent training from an MEI. Have fun!!
